Phillip Andrew Hughes, 29, died June 18, 2011, following a nine-month battle with leukemia. Mr. Hughes (affectionately known as Phil) was a native of Fauquier County, graduated from Highland School in 1995, and Fauquier High School in 1999. He was an avid sportsman, excelling in soccer and golf, and possessed a great love of sailing. Known for his quick wit and dry sense of humor, Phil was also an accomplished musician, performing in several local musical groups, including the Piedmont Symphony Orchestra, the awarding winning band Street Legal, Old Hat and numerous pit orchestras for local musical productions. Survivors include his beloved Nichole Stephenson, parents Michael and Diane Hughes, his sister C. Michelle Hughes, nephew Christopher Flinspach, Jr., numerous cousins and countless friends. There will be a gathering of remembrance at Claire’s Restaurant in Warrenton at noon on Thursday, June 23, 2011. In lieu of flowers, donations for Leukemia Research may be made to the Phillip Andrew Hughes Foundation, c/o The Fauquier Bank, Head Office, 10 Courthouse Square, Warrenton, VA 20186.

Phil will always be missed as I remember all of the good times. Mr. McCartney's Psych class, Airlie, the Springs Rd house, etc.
