Phillip McDonald Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 20, 2018.
Phillip Eugene McDonald, 81, of Waynesboro crossed over into everlasting life on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 after a very long courageous struggle with Alzheimer's disease.
Phillip was born in Elkton, VA in 1936, the son of the late Grover Eugene and Mary Elizabeth McDonald.
He was a graduate of Elkton High School, Elkton, VA, attended Augusta Military Academy and Shenandoah College. Phillip served his country as a U.S. Marine for a brief period of time. Prior to retirement, he was employed with General Electric/Genicom where he worked for 35 years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Gary McDonald and Stephen McDonald.
Phillip is survived by his loving wife and soulmate, Lorinda (Lee) Bean of Townsend, Tn. They were married for 55 years. In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, Stacy Andrew McDonald of Harrisonburg, Va; a daughter, Amy Elizabeth McDonald of Waynesboro, Va; two grandsons, Ryan McDonald and Riley McDonald of Timberville, VA; his beloved feline friends, "Taz" and "Angel"; sister, Beverly Via of Waynesboro; as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 23, 2018 at Augusta Memorial Park with Pastor April Cranford officiating. Those who plan to attend are asked to meet directly at the cemetery for the service. There will be no formal viewing or visitation at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, please send memorial donations to the Alzheimer's Association, 485 Hillsdale Drive, Suite 306, c/o Team McDonald (in honor of Phillip), Charlottesville, VA 22901.
The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff at Envoy of Staunton Nursing Home, especially Jill, Cheryl, Donna, Tori, Staci, Brooke and Destiny for their care and empathy of Phillip while he was a resident.
