April 23, 1930 - May 18, 2013
Phillip George Rinaldi (né Felice Filippo Rinaldi) peacefully passed away on May 18, 2013, in Corvallis. He was 83.
Phillip will be remembered for his devotion to his wife of 59 years, Anoel, and their sons, Tony of Corvallis and Dino of Bethesda, Md. Phillip's pride in his grandchildren Nina, Anthony and Savio was unsurpassed. He was a gracious father-in-law to Donna and Sabina, and will be remembered by them as the perfect grandfather to their children.
Phillip was born on April 23, 1930, in Chicago, Ill., to Carmine and Teresa Rinaldi. He was educated in Chicago's public school system, received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Illinois, a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Loyola University's Chicago College of Dental Surgery, and, in 1962, a Master of Science degree in dentistry from the University of Alabama.
In 1954, he was commissioned as a 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force and married Anoel Tyler in Montgomery, Ala., that same year.
During a 30-year military career he rose to the rank of Colonel. Among his many decorations and awards are the Legion of Merit and the Meritorious Service Award. Due to his military assignments, the family lived and traveled in the United States and Europe. Phillip delighted in the experiences they had as a family and was a peerless storyteller of their adventures.
His family and friends also knew him as a loyal, long-suffering fan of the Chicago Cubs.
We will miss Phillip's wise counsel, his sense of humor and mischievous spirit, and his appreciation of a properly-made dish of spaghetti. With the generous help of Benton Hospice Service, Phillip passed away at home with his family by his side.
In memory of Phillip and honoring his love of the Oregon Coast, the family will gather there for a private celebration of his life.
