PHYLLIS "PEG" DYER

1924 - 2025

At 100 years of age, still fiercely independent and in control, Phyllis "Peg" Dyer passed away peacefully on July 1, 2025. Born to the late Ralph and Ruth Nist on December 21, 1924 in Akron, Ohio, Peg was raised with eight brothers and sisters during the era of the Great Depression and World War II. Peg always spoke of the bravery and resilience of her widowed mother, lovingly known to us as "Nanny." Despite financial strain, Nanny's commitment to family never wavered and Peg's childhood memories with her siblings were those of joy and laughter. It was a bond that carried through adulthood and passed on to the next generation. For this, her children are forever thankful.

Peg was known for her cooking skills and remembering everyone's favorites; including city chicken, homemade applesauce, frosted brownies, and peanut butter pie. She was proud to cook for the ones she loved and always welcomed guests with open arms. Peg also took pride in winning bingo, poker, and card games. Despite her age, she was the sharpest player at the table and her competitive nature came out no matter whom she played against - family, friends, and neighbors.

Peg is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Dyer; son-in-law, Jim Burdon; great granddaughter, Cassandra Grace Arney; sisters Rosemary, Betty, Ginny, and Joan; brothers Bill, Tom, Ed, and Joe; her beloved brothers and sisters-in-law, and loving nieces and nephews.

Peg is survived by her children, Kathy Dempsey, Mike Dyer (Debbie), Patty Burdon, Chris (Karen) Dyer, and Mary (Brian) Barnhardt; 15 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

To celebrate Peg's unforgettable legacy and passing as the last of her generation, a family reunion will be held.

Uncle Bob and Aunt Peg were great friends with my parents. When they came by, the kids (there were a lot of us!) were sent to another room, the cards came out and the house rocked with laughter! Those are cherished memories!

Ms. Peg was a joy to be around! Always happy, always making jokes and laughing. She loved to have a good time; and she loved her family so much! I´ll never forget her peanut butter pie!! She was one of a kind and is missed tremendously. Rest in peace Ms Peg, until we meet again.

I was sorry to hear of GiGi's passing. It was love at first sight for me and my family when Dustin became part of her family. She was the life of the crowd and I always commented that I wanted to be like her at her age. But really thought I would like to be like her at my current age. Rest in peace and prayers to your family and friends.
