Pierce Joseph MacNeil
1952-2010
Sydney

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Pierce Joseph MacNeil on Sunday, April 18, 2010, in An Cala Palliative Care at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by his loving family, after a rough but very courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Sydney, Pierce was the son of Agnes (Lynch) MacNeil, Sydney and the late Neil MacNeil (1974).

Pierce was a bricklayer by trade having worked for different local Masonry Companies over the years. His last place of employment was the PCL Industrial Constructors of Edmonton, AB from which he was forced into retirement due to his illness. Pierce was a member of the Construction and General Workers' Union Local 92 of Eastern and Western Canada. He was an avid fan of the Boston Bruins although his favourite hockey player was Sidney Crosby. He enjoyed family gatherings and many camping trips with his family. Always ready with a joke to share, Pierce's witty and humorous personality will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Besides his mother, he is survived by his most loving wife, Patsy Kendrick; sons, Gary, Calgary, AB; Michael (Lorna), Halifax and daughter, Mindy Kendrick-Dawe (David), Sydney; two grandchildren, Noah and Kate MacNeil, Halifax; four sisters, Bonnie Peck (Kevin), Elizabeth Young (George), both of Sydney; Margaret Koski (Roger), Sudbury, Ontario; Angela Calder (Jack), Howie Center; one brother, Neil (Clare), Sydney; two brothers-in-law, Sonny Rankin, Sydney; Dave MacDonald, Albert Bridge; his mother-in-law Rita Kendrick; sisters-in-law, Eunice Anthony (Vincent); Eleanor MacDonald (Paul); Andrea Dalziel (Jeff); Beverly Kendrick; brother-in-law Clifford Kendrick (Lisa) and numerous nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by his furry friends, his dog Boots and cats, Star and Lily.

Pierce was predeceased by his sister Madelyn MacDonald (1996); brother John (2005); sister Carol Rankin (2009) and Joan in infancy; his father-in-law, Wilson Kendrick, sister-in-law, Sharon White, brothers-in-law, Doug White and Don Moore.

Visitation for the late Mr. MacNeil will take place at T.W.Curry Parkview Chapel on Wednesday, April 21 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 10 am at St. Theresa's Church with Rev. Jim Oliver officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.

In memory of Pierce, donations may be made to the SPCA, C.B. Palliative Care Society or a charity of one's choice.
