Pieter Mijnard Droog

Reno - 10/14/1952 - 11/29/2023 - Pieter was man who served others in this life through teaching, coaching, mentoring and motivating others. He loved learning and was a voracious reader. A graduate of Archbishop Carroll High School, Washington DC; BA History Loyola College; MA Management, Central Michigan University. Pieter proudly served in the Army from 1974 -1994, retiring as a Major. During his career he served as an Aviation Officer, Director of Logistics, Sr. Operations Officer and Director of HR, Community Activities and Security. In his civilian roles he worked in several industries as Manager, Director, and VP of Operations in retail, manufacturing, and in ecommerce. With his love for learning, he switched careers and went into non-profit working as the Branch Manager of ProNet where he led, mentored, counseled and guided hundreds of clients. With his love for animals, he worked for the SPCA as the Assistant Executive Director where he found his mutually adoring Doxie Ollie who was always at his side. Lastly Pieter worked for the Nevada Department of Veteran Services as the Director, Veteran Advocacy and Support Team where he developed a strong staff of Veteran Service Officers who assist Nevada's Veterans in securing their eligible benefits. He served as past President APICS Reno Chapter where he loved teaching the courses and mentoring his students. He thoroughly enjoyed his public speaking gigs where he traveled within the US and abroad. He relished competing in Toastmasters where he attained the designation of Distinguished Toastmaster. He also liked volunteering as a mentor and educator to local businesses at SCORE. For 24 years he served as President of our HOAs where he always looked for ways to provide the community with cost effective amenities while effectively managing the operational costs. He is predeceased by his Mother Marytje (2008) and Father Gerald Droog (1997). He is survived by his soulmate and wife Ellen, brother Conrad (Karen) of Edgewater FL, step-sons David Bier (Rona) of Sacramento CA, Matthew Bier of Draper Utah, daughter, Nicole Weidinger (Daniel) of Dunkirk MD, six grandchildren Skyla, Liam, Iris, Sebastian, Oliver and Henry, and many cousins in Holland.

Services will be held at the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery Fernley, December 8, 2023 at 2:00 pm. Being a huge animal lover, Pieter's wish in lieu of flowers is to please donate to the SPCA, or an Animal Rescue or the Humane Society.
