Dear Joan, Tara, Ila and Anil: Please accept my deepest condolences. I spent most of the summer away and was extremely saddened to learn that he didn't recover from his illness and had passed away. I was most fortunate to have him as my thesis supervisor and to know him for many years. He was a great human being and I'll miss him very much.

I would like to send you my sincere condolences during this difficult time. I spent so much time with your family as a child that I felt that I was a part of it! Popat was always so kind to me, and this news made me very sad. I miss you all, and my thoughts are with you!

Dear Joan, Tara, Ila, Anil and families,
We were so saddened to learn about Popat's death. Our memories of him and all of you are only warm, happy ones: delightful stories at many, many dinner parties and get-togethers, sharing in the bringing up of our young children, and just being as much a part of our family as of yours. We also recognize what an impact he had in the world of science, of which you all must be especially proud.
We know how difficult this time must be for you. Popat was a very special friend to us and we will miss him. Please accept our deepest sympathies.
