Prescott May, Sr. Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 4, 2025.
Prescott Warren May, Sr., age 83, of Southbury, CT, passed away surrounded by his family on September 1, 2025. Born July 3, 1942, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mary May. Beloved husband of 55 years to the late Karen J. May; loving father of Prescott W. May, Jr., Jason May and Kathryn (Jeffrey) Simons; adored Papa of Vincent May, Joseph May, Eleanor Simons and Lillian Simons.

Prescott received his undergraduate degree in engineering from Brown University and his Juris Doctor from the University of Connecticut Law School. He began his career as a patent attorney for the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He returned to Connecticut to practice as a civil litigation attorney, serving the community for more than fifty years. He truly loved his work. He had hoped to work until he passed but illness over the past few years precluded this possibility.

Prescott was a lifelong car enthusiast with a passion for (red) sportscars. He combined his love of history, engineering and cars when he completely restored a 1961 Corvette. He spent years working in his garage every night after a full day of work at the office to restore his beloved car to original factory specifications. Once the project was complete, he filled his evenings with reading the New York Times and history books with a bottle of diet coke and a bowl of ice cream by his side.

Prescott cherished summer vacations on Block Island - driving his boat too fast (according to his daughter), fishing with his sons, savoring lobster dinners and enjoying the beautiful ocean. The only place that he loved more was his own home. Prescott and Karen raised their children in a home filled with warmth and laughter. Karen was the love of Prescott's life. The past year and a half without her was incredibly hard. Their family takes great comfort that they are together again.

Prescott was feisty and bright with a keen sense of humor. He was a wonderful attorney, friend, husband and father. He will be greatly missed.

We look forward to celebrating Prescott and Karen's life with a joint memorial service in the upcoming months.
