Priscilla Joy Berends

Priscilla Joy Berends UPPER Priscilla Joy Berends, age 73, went home to be with Jesus on Friday, August 22, 2025 after a 6-year battle with corticobasal syndrome. Joy was born in Grand Rapids, MI and worked as a nurse at the TDCJ hospital at UTMB for 32 years until retiring in 2019. She took pleasure in traveling and helping the less fortunate. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Henry Owen Berends and Helen Louise Berends, and her brother-in-law Dr. Mark Patton. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Drs. Joel and Maitreyee Berends, and her siblings, Tim Berends of Las Vegas, NV, Dr. Lois Patton of Madison, AL, Beth and Tim Nesseth of Hudsonville, MI, Rev. James and Anne Berends of Rochester, NY, and Mark and Robyn Berends of Melbourne, Australia. She treasured her grandchildren, Michael and Gabriella Berends. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to support medical missions in Latin America through the Luke Society. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 30th at 3 p.m. at Galveston Bible Church, with Rev. Clay Thomas officiating. 'Absent from the body, present with the Lord!'
