Priscilla Dever Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jun. 1 to Jun. 4, 2023.
Priscilla Jane Dever Plantation - Priscilla Jane Dever passed away peacefully in Weston Florida on April 28th 2023.

She was born Priscilla Jane Ellen in Chicago Illinois on Aug 20th 1930. She was known to all as Pat Dever, Mom, Grandma, Aunt Pat or Miss Berkeley, 1947. The only child of Milton and Florence Ellen, Pat grew up in Berkeley California and Chicago Illinois. It was in Chicago that she met her husband, Thomas Joseph Dever. They were married in Chicago on June 14th 1952.

Pat is survived by her five children, Michael, Ellen, Jil, Patrice and Thomas. She had eight grandchildren whom she adored: Filippo, Sarah, Thomas, Lorenzo, Genevieve, Joseph, Alessa and Elle.

A businesswoman, a world traveler, a master of card games, an excellent cook, baker and a Miami Heat Superfan: Pat was many things in her lifetime - but first and foremost she was Mom. She adored her family and her pride was palpable when you were with her in public. Pat was kind, loving, nurturing, empathetic and totally devoted to her family.

As a devout Catholic convert Pat had a lifetime calling to help others, especially those less fortunate than herself. She worked with both community and Catholic charities doing volunteer work throughout her life. Her work included volunteering in both Cleveland's Hough area as well as with working the Sisters of Mercy, helping to set up Philadelphia's first homeless women's hospice.

Pat worked endlessly to nurture, love and educate her five children and eight grandchildren. She was a gifted chef and baker who loved playing any type of game and specialized in winning. She loved to laugh and smile, and serve our Lord. Pat was an incredibly kind and loving woman who will be deeply missed by her family.

Pat was always such fun, and always so clever. My mom tells the story about how Pat became her hero and lifetime friend almost 70 years ago when my mom ran out of gas with kids in the car. Pat recognized my mom as another parent at her school and saw the pickle my mom & siblings were in. Pat piled them all into her car to get them home. When my mom noticed Pat was wearing PJs under her fancy coat, she was convinced they would be good friends. We've enjoyed having "Aunt Pat" and the whole Dever family as lifetime friends.

The more I spoke with Grandma, the more I was impressed by her acumen, wit and understanding of the world, past and present - her ability to discern our surrounding complexities and reveal attainable well-meaning solutions is something I will strive to reach for all the days she will be in my heart. PAT, a name I never called her, will always be a three-letter reminder to stretch my smile, evoking memories of the people who called her such in the home next to the golf course we shared summers in. Her strength in making you feel loved was so great that it guided me from the other side of the ocean, I will always adore you and continue to thank you for your lessons in kindness. Please remember to thank your new friends for all those parking spaces.

With incredible affection,
Lorenzo

Pat was the best mother-in-law ever. She was kind, generous, understanding, fun, always ready to play a game with her family and laugh. And what a cook! Lots of food. She will be missed.
