Priscilla Cobb Payne, aged 104, passed away at Fox Hill Village, Westwood, Massachusetts on April 30, 2012. Mrs. Payne was born in Cincinnati, Ohio and grew up in Newton, Mass. She was the daughter of the late well known authors, Bertha Browning Barnes and Ernest Codman Cobb, founders of the Arlo Publishing Company. Mrs. Payne was formerly married to the late Dr. William T. Doran Jr. and resided in Bronxville, NY. She was pre-deceased by her sister, Madeline Ware Cobb, brother, Churchill Cobb, and husband, William T. Payne. She is survived by her 3 children Joanna Lane of Barnstable, Dr. Peter Doran of Belgrade, Maine and Priscilla Brejcha of Fox Lake, Illinois, 9 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild. Mrs. Payne graduated from Newton High School with the Class of 1925, and Dean College, Class of 1926. She received her B.S. degree in English and Sociology at Tufts University in 1930, and her M.Ed. degree in Guidance and Counseling at University of Massachusetts. She also did graduate work at Harvard University and Boston University. Her career included employment executive at RH Macy in New York City, teacher at Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts, and associate director of Learning Disabilities Foundation and Landmark Schools, Prides Crossing, Mass. She was listed in Whos Who of American Women. In Wellesley, she was active in the Council on Aging, the Youth Commission, a Director of R.S.D.P. and she was acting president of the AARP. She was also an active alumna of Tufts University and Dean College, a co-founder of the Parents Committee of Colby College, and she helped to organize the Friends of Framingham Womens Reformatory. Genealogy was of particular interest and she was a member of The Society of Mayflower descendants. Priscilla committed much of her life to public service. She traveled the world and was actively involved in foreign exchange programs hosting many overseas guests in our country.
