W. Douglas Holmes

State College, Pennsylvania - W. Douglas Holmes, 70, of State College, passed away on Monday, February 27, 2023, at his home.
Born December 16, 1952, in Dunmore, he was the son of the late John and the late Shirley (Sweet) Holmes. On June 4, 1977, he married Anne DeSantis Holmes, who survives.
He is survived by two daughters, Rebeccah Holmes and Katheryn Holmes, both of State College; two brothers, Colin Holmes and his wife, Camille of Clarks Summit, PA, Christopher Holmes and his wife Janet of Smithfield, RI; and one sister, Constance Elberth of Neversink, NY.
He was a 1972 graduate of Abington Heights High School, where he excelled in swimming and long distance running.
During 1971, he participated in the Rotary Youth Exchange program and spent 1 year in Sweden. This experience made a huge impact on his life and drove his commitment to the program later in life.
In 1976, W. Douglas graduated from the Pennsylvania State University with a BS in Political Science. After graduation, he began his career with the Penn State Campus Police, where he completed 12 years of service. He continued working for Penn State in the Parking & Transportation department for 25 more years until his retirement in 2011.
He was a member of the State College Downtown Rotary Club, Pennsylvania Parking Association and the International Parking Institute. After retirement, he kept up with his involvement in each organization as long as his health permitted.
As the son of a professional photographer, Doug was an amateur photographer and loved to photograph his family and weddings of friends. In addition to photography, he loved to travel especially to Bailey Island, Maine where he spent many summers as a youth and again later in life. A fan of trivia, Doug loved to watch Jeopardy, where he almost always knew all of the answers.
At this time there will be no formal services, but a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
