Quinton Asbury Taylor GILBERT - Quinton Asbury Taylor, age 92, passed away May 2, 2017, in Lexington, South Carolina. He was born in Lexington County, May 30, 1924, a son of the late Bertha Rawl Taylor and the late Rev. Callie L. Taylor, Sr. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Carnese Taylor; daughters, Elizabeth T. "Libby" Holland, Cayce, and Robin T. McCartha (Dean), Gilbert; sons, Wyman L. Taylor, Cookeville, Tennessee, and S. Alan Taylor, Fairview, Tennessee; son-in-law, Jim L. Duncan, Gilbert; a sister, Vivian T. Amick, Gilbert; a brother, O. Maybank Taylor, Monetta; 14 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two children, Elaine T. Duncan and Quinton Terry Taylor; son-in-law Linwood Holland; former daughter-in-law Patricia G. Shealy; sisters, Earlene T. Amick and June T. Harmon; and brothers, C.L. Taylor, Jr., R.J. Taylor and Phillip H. Taylor. During World War II, Mr. Taylor served in the U.S. Navy including the invasion of Southern France where the LCI to which he was assigned hit a mine. Those still alive had to abandon ship and dig foxholes with their helmets on the beach under continuous German fire. He retired from Springs Industries and Pacific Mills in Columbia. He then worked as a custodian for State Street Baptist Church for several years before he retired again to enjoy some of his favorite things. He was a quiet man with simple ways. He loved the Lord, his family, his friends, farming, fishing, watermelon, sliced tomatoes, boiled peanuts, and music. He loved to sing; and although he could not read music, he enjoyed playing the harmonica and was always happy to lead in church singing and at family reunions. He was a former member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and First Calvary Baptist Church. At his passing, he was a member of First Baptist Church, Gilbert. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, Gilbert or to Gideons International. Visitation will be Friday evening, May 5, at Barr Price Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, at 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. A worship service celebrating his life will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 6, at First Baptist Church, Gilbert, South Carolina. Following the service, burial will be in First Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery, Leesville. www.barr-price.com (803) 356-4411

I will never forget Uncle Quinton's quiet ways and his smile. I never saw him get angry. He was always vocal in his love of the LORD and in his singing. I know he is rejoicing today having met Jesus and being reunited with his heavenly family. Our love goes to Aunt Carnese and the family.
