We are going to miss him very much. We enjoyed visiting with him and listening to his stories and having our spirits lifted. I have pictures of him chasing me when we all lived in Tungstun. We love all of you very much. A daughter of Myrle Astle.

Dear AnneMarie and family,
We are greatly saddened to learn of the recent passing of your husband, father, grandfather and friend.
We came to know Qwen well while employed, under his capable supervision, at the Institutional Laundry back in the mid '70's. It was, in fact, at the Laundry that we first met and were, eventually, married in the Spring of '76.
Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you and we pray that you may find peace and comfort in your hour of need.
As the days, weeks and years pass by, may your memories of Qwen be sweet and wonderful. We know that he possessed a strong testimony of the Resurrected Lord Jesus Christ and will be anxiously awaiting the day that he can be reunited with you.
Sincerely,
Howard & Vickie

My favorite Memory of Poppa is the uncanny ability he had for making boyfreinds/girlfreinds of his grandchildren squirm. I remember in particular how it felt to be in his proverbial "hotseat", my nerves afire as he asked question after question about my life. This was apparently done in order to determine my suitability for his granddaughter. What a scary moment that was for me. And yet, as I grew to know Poppa I came to realize that Love was his primary motivation for this supposed torture. He loved his grandchildren, and as a result wanted only the best for them. What a powerful message this was to each grandchild, as if he was saying 'you've got to be made of special stuff to be good enough for my grandkids'. I relished these moments as I saw each of my brothers and sisters and cousins undergo this same scrutiny as they brought each of their future spouses for Poppas inspection. Ultimately, this ritual became a source of pride, and instilled a measure of confidence in potential spouses as they were weighed, measured and found to be sufficient to meet Poppa's standards. I think we all filled him bursting with pride. We Love you Poppa!
