**Ruth Loretta Broman (née Almquist), 96**

*December 24, 1928 - August 6, 2025*

R. Loretta Broman passed away peacefully on August 6, 2025, in Roseville, California, at the age of 96. A vibrant and devoted woman throughout her life, Loretta's legacy is one of family, faith, education, and joyful engagement with the world around her.

Loretta is lovingly remembered by her brother, John Allen Almquist (Janice L. Almquist) and sister-in-law, Beverly Almquist; sons, Calvin Theodore "Ted" Broman (Karla Broman), Craig Alan Broman (Robin Wotipka), and James Edwin Broman; grandchildren Cullen Todd Broman; William Robert Broman (Keirsen Broman) along with great-granddaughter, Joliet Oriah; Timothy James Broman (Jackie Broman); and Laura Mary "Daisy" Broman as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Calvin Theodore "Ted" Broman; father, William Carl Almquist and stepmother Jessie McHenry; mother, Alice Marie Almquist (Heflin) and stepfather, Roy G. Karlstrom; sister, Alice Emeline Huppert (David W. Huppert); brother, Donald William Almquist (Beverly Almquist); and sister, Kathryn K. Marsden (Mel B. Marsden).

Born on December 24, 1928, in Moline, Illinois, Loretta was the daughter of William Carl Almquist and Alice Marie Almquist (née Heflin). She was also lovingly raised by her stepmother Jessie McHenry and stepfather Roy G. Karlstrom. Loretta graduated from Moline High School in 1947, where she was an active student leader. Her involvement included the Associated Student Body and numerous clubs such as Home Economics-where she served as president-Banquet Club, Civics Club, Drama Club, Rifle Club, and Spanish Club.

On April 9, 1949, Loretta married Calvin Theodore "Ted" Broman in Moline. Their journey together took them to California where Ted attended UCLA. In 1963, they settled in San Jose when he began working at Lockheed in Sunnyvale. After his retirement in 1992, they moved to Folsom to enjoy their later years together. Following Ted's passing in 1998, Loretta relocated to Roseville.

Foremost, in Loretta's life was her role as a mother. After raising her children with love and dedication, she returned to school and earned her Associate of Arts degree in 1987 from De Anza College in California-graduating Cum Laude at the age of 58. She later worked for about ten years at Sunny View Manor Retirement Home.

Loretta's life was rich with interests that reflected her intellect and sociable spirit as she made friends everywhere she went. She was an avid quilter whose handwork earned "Best of Show"; she was even invited to judge competitions when not submitting entries herself. A passionate bridge player, she joined bridge clubs and often hosted lively bridge parties at home. Her love for reading led her to participate actively in book clubs and reading groups.

She also enjoyed theater, traveling and remained socially engaged in her community and through organizations such as the Red Hat Society and P.E.O., both of which she participated in for many years. Hosting luncheons, BBQ's, dinners and celebrations brought her great joy-her home was often filled with laughter and conversation.

Faith played a central role throughout Loretta's life. Worship was important to her spiritual well-being. After moving to Roseville from Folsom following her husband's passing, she became a devoted member of the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection.

Loretta lived a full life marked by warmth, intelligence, resilience, and community spirit. May her memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her. A Graveside Service will be held on August 27, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 11:45 AM at Lakeside Memorial Lawn Cemetery, 824 Sutter St, Folsom, CA 95630.

Celebration of Life for Loretta will follow graveside service in lieu of memorial.
