R.W. Schambach Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 20, 2012.
A memorial service for the Rev. R.W. Schambach, 85, of Tyler will be held Friday, Feb. 3, 2012, at 7 p.m. at Rose Heights Church in Tyler.

A private graveside will take place in Cathedral in the Pines Cemetery.

Rev. Schambach passed away Jan. 17, 2012, at Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler. He was born April 3, 1926, in Harrisburg, Pa., to Harry Ellsworth and Ann Moyer Schambach.

After serving his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a boilermaker on a destroyer in the South Pacific and Asia, Rev. Schambach received his formal training at Central Bible Institute in Springfield, Mo., in the 1940s. He apprenticed alongside the then well-known miracle evangelist, A.A. Allen. R.W. served as Bro. Allen's associate for five years.

R.W. met his late wife, Mary, while she studied at the Eastern Bible Institute Assemblies of God. They married in 1948. After pastoring in both Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, Pa., following the call to ministry, they moved to Tyler in 1982, establishing their home base of Schambach Ministries.

"Bro. Schambach" may be best known for the great gospel tent, traveling to every major city in the United States, bringing people to Jesus Christ. His ministry has been received throughout the world and still continues.

Rev. Schambach was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; and one sister.

He is survived by his loving family including his sons, Robert William Schambach Jr. and wife Laura of Bullard, Bruce Allen Schambach of Tyler; daughter, Donna Joy Schambach, also of Tyler; siblings, Ruth Aldridge, Leroy Schambach and Nettie Reitzel; grandchildren, Rachel and Kenny Duay of Tyler, Robert William Schambach III of Austin, Mark and Jessica Myers of Oklahoma City, Okla., Amanda and Rick Worsham of Conroe, Christi Schambach of Houston and Craig Schambach of Tyler. Rev. Schambach is also survived by five great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; and by "an unnumbered host of sons and daughters on every continent."

Pallbearers will be Robert W. Schambach II, Bruce Schambach, Robert W. Schambach III, Craig Schambach, Paul Schambach, Kenny Duay, Jonathan Gregori and Wade Eitel.

Visitation is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 20, 2012, at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Highway in Tyler.

I remember Rev. R. W. Shambach bringing the big tent to the Navajo Reservation: Window Rock AZ, Shiprock NM, and in Gallup NM.
I was a child back then. My grandmother Elizabeth N. Wauneka (Great woman of God) would help pray for the people with Rev. Shambach.
I remember his uncompromising preaching and teaching of the word of God. I truly enjoyed his singing. Use to watch him on TV when I got older.
I learned about faith in Jesus, the word, and putting into action.

As a child growing up in New York City, Pastor R.W. Schambach operated a radio ministry that I listened to regularly. I remembered his preaching line, "You don't any trouble! All you need is faith in God." Pastor Schambach preached fiery sermons on the Word of God that proved inspirational. I am grateful for his radio preaching ministry.

I FIRST MET BRO SCHAMBACH IN ABOUT 1956, WHEN I WENT TO WORK FOR A A ALLEN, IN THE TENT IN PHX, AZ. IN NY, I PLAYED ORGAN FOR SOME OF HIS SERVICES. WE STAYED FRIENDS OVER THE YRS, AS I SPENT 18 YRS, AS CRUSADE ORGANIST WITH MOST OF THE HEALING EVANGELIST.
OFTEN TALKED ON THE PHONE, EVEN WHILE I HELD 172 INT. MISSIONARY CRUSADES, IN THE CARIBBEAN ISLANDS.
TALKED WITH HIM 3 DAYS BEFORE HIS PASSING & WAS TO DRIVE OVER FROM DALLAS, FOR LUNCH WITH HIM.
WHEN I CALLED TO GET HIS ADDRESS, BOB (HIS SON) SAID HE HAD JUST PASSED ON, THE NIGHT BEFORE!
NOW HE'S WITH HIS KING OF KINGS AND HIS WONDERFUL MARY, WHOM HE MISSED SO MUCH! PTL!

WHAT A MAN! WHAT A FRIEND! WHAT A PREACHER! WHAT A GREAT BIG GOD!!

On behalf of the family of the late Pastor Benjamin Smith , Sr. we give you all our sincere condolences and cherished every moment we labored together in the ministry. Yours turly will never forget the awesome tent services on Fox Street during the 70's . I was just 6 years old at that time however that was my introduction to the deliverance ministry. R.W. Our loss is heaven's gain. I have enjoyed listening to Brother Schambach over the years and first meeting him when he was in a tent crusade in Maryland. It was during a hot dry summer. Brother Schambach was preaching. Just about the time the dust would settle about 100 people would jump up and start to dance and praise the Lord and a dust cloud would rise again. Those were some great days. Brother Schambach, thank you for giving so much to all of us!

I was miraculously healed of Double Pneumonia at the age of 16 under the ministry of Brother Schambach. I was at the point of death and he preached a message of the four leprous men that said "Why sit here till we die." Bro. Schambach said, "Are you going to lay there and DIE or get up and LIVE"? He prayed the prayer of FAITH and God healed me instantly and called me in the ministry. Since that day I have preached for 40 years in 61 nations the message of Salvation, Healing and Deliverance. I thank God for the ministry of Brother Schambach and loved him so very much.
He was a Spiritual HERO to millions of us.
