Rachel Anne Manuel Abadie, 51, of Lake Charles passed away Monday, January 24, 2022 while vacationing in Costa Rica.
Mrs. Abadie was a native of Grand Lake where she was raised and educated. A graduate of Grand Lake High School, where she was a talented athlete, active member and participant in many areas: Sweet Sixteen Basketball Team, 400 Meter State Track Champion (setting the state record), 4-H, SADD (Students Against Drunk Drivers, Yearbook Club, Student Council, Junior Beta, Beta, FBLA (Future Business Leader of American), AGATE (A Gifted and Talented Education) YCA (Young Christian Athletes) and CYO (Catholic Youth Organization). Rachel was not only athletic, but she was also beautiful and intelligent, representing her Class as Miss Grand Lake and Salutatorian. Her college career was much the same, graduating Summa Cum Laude with Bachelor in Elementary Education within three years and was nominated 1st Year, Teacher of the Year Award while at TS Cooley. She was a Science teacher at S.J. Welsh Middle School for nine years and was later elected to serve one term for the Cameron Parish School Board. Once retired from the teaching system, Rachel continued to contribute to the Grand Lake Community and its students. It was in high school that she met her love, André who came to be her husband of nearly thirty years, soulmate and life partner. Rachel’s second career was pursed alongside André in Real Estate and Property Management and was a success. Rachel enjoyed her downtime working in her flower gardens worthy of Southern Living Magazine, weekend escapes to their home in Toledo Bend, and spending time with family and friends. Her fun times were as a bit of a social butterfly: traveling with friends, activities with members of Krewe de DU Lac and hosting countless birthday and holiday celebrations for family and friends. Rachel was of Catholic faith, attended St. Mary of the Lake and Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. She will be most remembered for her love and devotion to her family and her spirit that often brighten the day of others.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Brennan André Abadie of Lake Charles; son, Brennan Alexander Abadie of Big Lake; mother, Mary Helen Manuel of Lake Charles; sister, Mary LaCasse (Thomas) of Lake Charles; nieces, Meagan and Madison LaCasse, Samantha Morris and Ashleigh LaCasse; dear friends, Chad and Kindra Kennedy and Marck and Paula Smythe and high school friends, Rhonda Boudreaux and Kay Lynn Breaux Garcia.
She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Lee Manuel and her extended family, father-in-law, Harold Abadie; mother-in-law, Ann Breaux Abadie and brothers-in-law, Brett and Jaimé Abadie.
A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:00 AM Tuesday, February 8th, 2022 at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Monsignor James Gaddy will officiate. Visitation Monday will be from 5:00 until 8:00 PM with a Rosary service beginning at 6:00 PM and will resume Tuesday from 9:00 until 10:30 AM at University Baptist Church.
Following the Funeral Mass, a Celebration of Life Reception will be held in the Fellowship Hall of Sale Street Baptist Church, main entrance.
Memorial donations may be made to The Rachel Manuel Abadie Scholarship Fund at Grand Lake High School, 1039 Highway 384, Lake Charles, LA 70607. Checks will be made to Grand Lake High School with memo: Rachel Abadie Scholarship.

We rented the Blue Heron up until hurricane Laura while waiting for our new house to be built in Abbeville. Rachel and Andre were the perfect hosts to the Hebert’s community. Rachel was the thread that drew the entire community tighter.
This evening we were sharing the story with visitors and were tearing up remembering Rachel’s energy keeping Big Lake beautiful.
Andre, we can only imagine your pain. There’s an army of people who will step up to support you through these difficult times.
We all know the Lord’s gardens just got the expert touch.

Although I just met Rachel and Andre this past summer as their neighbor in Pagosa Springs, we shared a lot of laughs and stories and simple talk here in Pagosa. Rachel is a beaming light and I can tell how much Andre adores her. It was obvious they were a match made in heaven and again will be re-united there. I will miss that wonderful laugh and beautiful smile but when I look in their yard, I see her amazing soul. Prayers and hugs to Andre and their son. One day at a time.. God Bless

I still can't believe this news. What a doll and she was married to a gem of a man. I guess God has His Plan, please allow the strength of Andre' and her family to continue and shed Rachel's light in her remembrance. RIP.

Andre, my deepest sympathy to you and your family. This is such a tragedy. I did not know Rachel but from reading all these messages, I know she was a wonderful wife, mother and friend. Andre, it has been many years since we last spoke. Not sure if you remember me but we worked together at Lumpkin Agency (many moons ago) when you were attending college. Andre, may you find peace and hold on to all those memories.

Rachel and André are our 2nd door neighbor on Lighthouse Lane in Big Lake. She was a lovely young women . Always with a smile and a wave as she passed by or stopped to chat. Since we were not from the area, she was always willing to help us with any questions we had and never failed to steer us right. I love working outdoors just as she did we often compared notes. I so admired her hard work, especially with her beautiful flowers. Those flowers were part of what drew us to the area in 2015. We will miss you Rachel. Ismay and Hebert’s will never be the same without you. Our sincere condolences to Andre and Brennan and her entire family

The world is less beautiful without Rachel in it. She was one of the fist friends Ivi, the girls, and I made when we moved to Hebert’s Landing so many years ago. Words cannot express the grief of her loss. Our prayers go out to her family and friends in this terrible time. God has gained an angel, but she will be missed here. Rest in peace my friend.

I just heard the very devastating news I have only known Rachel a few years (renting house on big lake)
but in those few years I have come to know what a wonderful and hard-working person she was. Andre, we have only met a couple of time and we talked about my mom being an Abadie I am saddened by your loss.
She will be missed dearly; I am sorry I can't be in lake Charles next week I'm working in Corpus Christie.

Andre' and Brennan, The world lost an amazing person far too soon. May the peace which comes from the memories of love shared, comfort you now and the days ahead. Words seem inadequate to express the sadness we all feel and no words can really help ease the loss you both bear. Please accept our sincerest sympathies on the loss of dear Rachel. Richard and I have been praying constantly for you and the souls of Rachel, Roland and Teri. Know that our hearts go out to you in your time of sorrow. Rachel will be greatly missed by so many. She was an inspiration to all who knew her with her positive outlook and beautiful smile! Praying that she is holding the Pearl of Great Price in Heaven and enjoying being in the presence of Jesus and all the loved ones that have gone before her. May eternal rest grant on to her oh Lord and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in Peace.

She also had a passion for her Big lake guest house rentals here at Heberts Marina @ Big Lake LA. She was such a bright light out here. Through all these storms she was always here. Rebuilding, planting flowers, trimming trees, making our community beautiful, she was Welcoming back the big lake community after hurricane Laura to all. She always had this huge smile. Shw would say welcome back to our residents. She loved big lake. She did so much for this Heberts Marina community. Will never ever be the same. As I drive these roads today here at Heberts I miss seeing her in her camps flower beds. We miss her already so much. We all feel the void that has been taken from us

Andre & Brennan, We are truly sorry to hear of our sweet friend's untimely passing. Rachel was the kind of person one wanted for a friend! She was kind, genuine and so darn sweet!!!! From our days of playing basketball against one another, to the adult friendship we formed because of Kevin's construction dealings with you, she was one person I felt truly blessed to call my friend!! Although we seldom saw one another, a simple text or phone call would get us in the groove of what was going on in our little worlds! I will never forget my sweet friend and her passion for life!
Please know we are keeping you both in our prayers as you navigate without your sweet wife and mom. We love y'all!

Jim and I are heartbroken for you and Brennan. Rachel and I shared a passion for flowers which brought us together. She lovingly took care of our flowers when we were away. Living in your lake house was very special for us. And knowing your family was wonderful. Rachel and her loving touches to your houses will be missed at Hebert's Landing.

From the first time I met Rachel (while she was engaged to Andre) to the last visit she was the most positive, energetic upbeat kind person I have ever met. She was always interested in those around her and always had a kind word to say. She was passionate about her work, family, plants, science and being helpful to others. My heart goes out to Andre, Brennan and her sweet family. We will truly miss this sweet woman.

Our entire group was shocked about the news. We have been coming down on fishing and golf trips for over 20 years. Staying in a couple of Rachel’s houses the majority of the time. She has always been so friendly. Always has a smile on her face and if you needed something, she would make it happen. Our deepest prayers go out to the family and neighborhood. Special prayers for her husbands speedy recovery and return to the states. You have truly lost a gem!!! Please accept this group’s deepest condolences..
