Rachel Darby Obituary
Rachel T. Darby, 87, of Anderson, passed away Sept. 6, 2008, at Saint John’s Medical Center following a brief illness.
She was born March 25, 1921, in New Salem Ill., the daughter of Jacob and Fannie (Crump) Hohe, and lived all of her adult life in the Anderson area. She was a homemaker whose first love was her family and family activities. She enjoyed the company of her grandkids and her pets.
Survivors include two daughters, Aloha Darby of Winter Garden, Fla., and Sharon (husband, Fred) Thompson of Anderson; grandchildren, Twila (husband, Jeff) Jackson of Markleville, Janine Patterson of Anderson, Mike (wife, Gretchen) Patterson of Markleville, James Poe of Charlotte, N.C., Thomas (wife, DeDe) Poe of Keedysville, Md., Rhonda Estes of Anderson, Richard Elliott of Indianapolis, Robert (wife, Angie) Elliott of Alexandria, Jason (wife, Lori) Thompson of Marion, and Zamir Wolfe of Norfolk, Va.; 15 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Joseph Hohe of Desert Hot Springs, Calif.; sister-in-law, Dorothy Coffey of Lake Alfred, Fla.; son-in-law, Fred “Mike” Patterson of Anderson; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughters, Peggy Darby and Dottie Patterson; great-granddaughter, Becca Elliott; brother, George Hohe; sisters, Velma Rose and Trula Hohe; and her former husband and special friend, Richard Darby.
Services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Home, 515 E. 53rd St., Anderson, with the Rev. Marvin Baker officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Saint John’s Hospice.

I am very sorry for your loss. Rae was one of my mother's dearest friends. My mother was Eddie Van Dalsen. She died a couple of years ago, but I know she kept Rae in her thoughts even though she could not get around to see her. She didn't have very many good days the last 2 years of her life, so she didn't talk to her much. I will keep Rae in my thoughts and heart for years to come. God bless you all.
