Rachel Merritt Sheppard -WARTHEN - Mrs. Rachel Merritt Sheppard, age 90, of 1969 Bay Springs Road in Warthen, died Thursday, November 10, 2011 in the Heritage Inn following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 2P.M. Sunday, November 13th in the Pine Hill United Methodist Church. The Rev. Don Black will officiate with burial in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Lane Layton, Shawn Sheppard, Trey Waller, Keith Rhodes, Vinnie Robinson and Kelvin Sheppard. -Mrs. Sheppard was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County, the daughter of the late Marvin Merritt and the late Denella Hattaway Merritt. She was the wife of the late Arthur Euree Sheppard. Mrs. Sheppard was a homemaker and a member of the Pine Hill United Methodist Church. -Survivors are her children, John Sheppard and his wife Merion, and Ricky Sheppard and his wife Margie, all of Warthen; grandchildren, Dolores S. (Lane) Layton, Kelvin Sheppard, Shawn (Sheril) Sheppard, Shannon (Trey) Waller, Shelly Sheppard and Whitney (Keith) Rhodes; and eight great-grandchildren. -The family will receive friends at May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville from 4:00 until 6:00 P.M. on Saturday. -May and Smith Funeral Directors in Sandersville is in charge of the arrangements. -www.mayandsmithfuneraldirectors.com
