Aberdeen - Memorial service for Rae “Vivien” Karrigan, 95, of Aberdeen will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, 2008, at First Presbyterian Church, 318 South Kline Street, with Rev. Tom Holslag and Chris McFarland officiating.

Vivien's wishes were to be cremated and burial of her remains will be 4 p.m. Saturday at Riverside Memorial Park.

Schriver's Memorial Mortuary and Crematory of Aberdeen is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. with the family present from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, at the mortuary. Friends may sign an online guest book at www. schriversmemorial.com.

Vivien passed away Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2008, at ManorCare Health Services, Aberdeen.

Rae Vivien Rasmussen was born May 11, 1913, to Raymond and Emla (Knudson) Rasmussen at St. Boniface, Manitoba, Canada. She moved to Aberdeen in 1919, attended Aberdeen Public Schools and graduated from Aberdeen Central High School in 1932. She attended Northern State College and graduated from the University of Iowa. She was a school teacher and taught school in Council Bluffs, Iowa, for a short time.

Vivien married Ellsworth J. Karrigan Oct. 5, 1940, at Aberdeen and they continued to make Aberdeen their lifelong home.

Vivien was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church for over 50 years, serving in the church choir, serving as secretary for the Presbyterian Women and was a Sunday School Teacher. Vivien was a 50-plus year member of the Gamma Phi Beta Sorority RHO Chapter, a YMCA Teen Board member, a member of the P.E.O. (BH), and involved in an Extension Club and the Republican Women.

Vivien enjoyed music, theater, reading, playing cards, politics, visiting with people and especially enjoyed the time spent with her grandchildren.

Surviving Vivien are three sons, John Karrigan of Minneapolis, Minn., David Karrigan and Stephens (Lynn) Karrigan, both of Aberdeen; one daughter, Nancy (Henry) Wong of Honolulu, Hawaii; one sister, Faye Noble of Lake Leelanau, Mich.; and four granddaughters, Kelli (Pat) Karrigan-Joyce of Apple Valley, Minn., Jami (Chris) McFarland of San Diego, Calif., Danielle Wong of Manhattan, Kan., and Laura Wong of Lincoln, Neb.

Vivien was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ellsworth, in April of 2008, two sisters and one infant brother.

Family would like to thank Vivien's caregivers at Internal Medicine, ManorCare Health Services, Avera St. Luke's Hospital, Primrose Cottages and Schriver's Memorial Mortuary and Crematory.

Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers to the First Presbyterian Church.

John and Family,

Vivien was a pure joy to care for and will be greatly missed by all. I'm only sorry I wasn't there and can't be there to convey my sympathies in person. I will alway's remember Vivien with fondness and love. Thinking of you with love and prayers,
