Dorothy Scanlon Obituary
Born in Pittston, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Genevieve (Markowski) Schevets.
Dorothy was a graduate of Pittston High School and was employed as a seamstress by Leslie Fay until her retirement.
She was a member of St. Maria Goretti Church, Laflin, and was a cantor and a former member of the choir.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas C. Scanlon, March 28, 1975; and son, Thomas Scanlon; and daughter, Rosemary Scanlon; brothers, Robert and Frank Schevets.
Surviving are her son, Robert Scanlon and his wife, Marie, Laflin; daughters, Margaret Valentine and husband, Jim, Pittston; and Kathleen Gross, West Pittston; grandchildren, Sandy Lucke, Theresa Vaccaro, Laura Valentine, Jim Valentine Jr., Rachel Gross and Gabriel Gross; great-grandchildren, Kevin and Brandon Lucke and Gianna and Anthony Vaccaro.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Maria Goretti Church, 42 Redwood Drive, Laflin, with Monsignor Neil Van Loon, pastor, celebrating. The Parish Rosary Group will recite the Divine Mercy Chaplet and Rosary in the Church 30 minutes before the Funeral Mass. All are invited to attend. Interment will be held in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends and family may call from 9 a.m. until the time of Mass Tuesday in St. Maria Goretti Church.
Arrangements are by Corcoran Funeral Home, Inc., 20 S. Main St, Plains Township.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Maria Goretti Tree of Life in Dorothy's memory.
