SMITHFIELD - Ralph Eugene Moore, Sr., 79, passed away Wednesday, May 18, 2016. Born in Tazewell, VA, he was the son of the late Clyde R. and Ruth Whitt Moore. Ralph was one of 8 children, two sisters, Iris Sparks and Mary Turner, also precede him in death. Formerly of Gloucester Point and Hampton, Ralph had been a resident of Smithfield since 1994. Beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Ralph leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 10 years, Emily Yarborough Woodfin Moore, 6 daughters, Rita Akers (Randy), Paula Rodrigues (David), Melinda Moore, Dianna Moore (Michael), Yvonne VanWychen (Tom) and Susan Lynn; 5 sons, Ralph Eugene Moore, Jr., Sidney Allan Moore, Woody Woodfin, Randy Woodfin, and Gorman Woodfin; grandchildren, Shawn, Lori, Michael, Jessica, Christopher, Charlene, Cheyanne, Samantha, Joshua, and Alex; sisters, Maggie Sanford and Peggy Horne; brothers, Thomas H. Moore, Noah Moore, and Jimmy Moore; and a host of extended family, nieces and nephews, and friends. Ralph was a veteran of the Army National Guard and the US Army (Korean Conflict), and retired from the Newport News Shipbuilding after 39 years of service. At the shipyard, Ralph was affectionately referred to as "Cowboy". He was a member of Banberry Gun and Rod Club, a life-member of NRA, and a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and golfer - a true outdoorsman. Ralph was passionate about working with his hands Family and friends will gather 5-7 pm, Friday, May 20, 2016 at Colonial Funeral Home for visitation. A service celebrating Ralph's life will be held 11 am, Saturday, May 21, at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Dan Gray and Rev. Greg Gray officiating. Burial will follow in St. Luke's Memorial Park. The family suggests memorial contributions in Ralph's memory be made to Calvary Baptist Church, Building Fund, 15155 Turner Drive, Smithfield, VA 23430. Service arrangements are in the care of Colonial Funeral Home, Carrollton. Family and friends are encouraged to share remembrances and condolences at colonialfuneralhomesmithfield.com.
