Ralph Phillips

PHILLIPS Ralph Ralph Phillips, age 101 years, of West Park Place died Thursday evening, September 13, 2007, in Kingston Care Center, Sylvania. Born in Poland on September 6, 1906, to Peter and Sarah (Lipshitz) Phillips, he emigrated with his family to the Chicago area and followed his brother, Phil to Toledo is the late 1930's. While in Chicago he attended and graduated from Medill High School and continued his education at the University of Toledo College of Engineering. After he came to Toledo he worked along with his brothers, Willie and Phil in a number of restaurants and bars that they operated. Ralph married his sister Goldie's best friend, Sylvia Cooperman in Chicago on December 7, 1942, and they shared almost 65 wonderful years together. During the War, Ralph worked as an accountant with the former Willys Overland and eventually opened the Phillips Grill, that he operated until the early 1970's. Ralph enjoyed playing golf, softball, and bowling. His memberships included the Congregation Etz Chayim and it's Men's Club and B'Nai Brith. The last of six children to survive, Ralph was preceded in death by siblings, Anne Zimbler, Phil Phillips, Goldie Siegman, Willie Phillips and Lena Axonovitz. Surviving is his wife, Sylvia; son, Bernard Phillips, Paris, France; daughter, Lois (Andrew) Skaff, Orinda, CA and grandchildren, Amy (Brian) Kaminski, San Francisco, CA and Julie Skaff, Hanover, NH. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Sunday, September 16, 2007, in the Robert H. Wick/Wisniewski Funeral Home, 2426 North Reynolds Rd. (419-535-5840). Interment Beth Shalom Cemetery, Oregon. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Congregation Etz Chayim.
