Ralph Stampone

Ralph Stampone, ASID award winning interior designer in the Lehigh Valley for over 60 years, died peacefully on November 28, 2022. Ralph was born on May 24, 1927 to Constance (Trigiani) and Anthony Stampone, the owner and operators of Tony's Caf on Garibaldi Avenue in Roseto, Pennsylvania. Ralph grew up surrounded by an extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins in Roseto's close-knit Italian American community. His parents, Brother Anthony, sisters Evangeline (Palermo) and Violet (Peters Ruggiero) and nieces, Angela Palermo and Constance Rose Ruggiero, preceded him in death. After graduation from Bangor High School in 1945, he enlisted in the US Navy, where he served during the Second World War earning an honorable discharge in 1947. He was accepted at the J. Franklin School of Professional Arts (now Parsons School of Design) in New York City on the G.I Bill, graduating from the four-year program in two years in 1949. His first job in interior design was for Manhattan based Scalamandre Silks where he was hired to research fabrics for the restoration of Colonial Williamsburg. Renowned designer Franco Scalamandre soon sent Ralph on the road, where he represented the company in presentations and exhibitions around the country. A member of the American Society of Interior Designers since 1961, Stampone served as northeastern Pennsylvania's chapter president for two terms. He opened Ralph Stampone Interiors at 10th and Northampton Streets in Easton, where he became lifelong friends with Dr. John and Mrs. (Shirley) Cavallo who worked out of the same office building. He was honored by the American Society of Interior Designers and he received the first-place design award from the Interiors Conference and Exposition for Historic Buildings in Philadelphia in 1989. A proud Italian American, Ralph was a charter member, president for six terms, and Past District Governor of the Roseto Chapter of UNICO. He was a founding member of the Knights of Columbus Father DeNisco Council #3862, a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Roseto for over 90 years (serving as an altar boy in his youth) and a member of the choir for 70 plus years. Ralph served on the board and designed the new library at Our Lady of Mount Carmel School in 2002. He is grateful for the care he received at Walden III in Wind Gap and for the friends he made there. He would encourage all those who read this to enjoy every day and find the beauty in it, and if you are so inclined, to keep the faith and pray the rosary. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday December 6th at 10:00 AM in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church Third & Garibaldi Avenues Roseto. Family and friends may call on Monday December 5th from 5 to 7 PM ONLY at the Fiore Funeral Home 230 Market Street Bangor. Burial with Military Honors will be in the family plot in the New Mt. Carmel Cemetery Roseto.
