Ralph Syverson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 22, 2025.

Ralph 'Sy' Frederick Syverson passed away peacefully on October 3, 2022, at the age of 104 at Cristwood Park in Shoreline, WA. Born in Lewiston, MT, March 2, 1918, Sy lived a full and vibrant life marked by his dedication to family, his passion for the outdoors and his love of music and the arts.

As a boy, Sy loved hiking and fishing in Tacoma, often accompanied by his brother, Howard. A favorite boyhood memory was crawling out onto the roof outside his room to gaze at Mt. Rainier.

Sy attended the University of Washington where he met his future wife, Marguerite Maxine Zach. They settled in Seattle and their marriage flourished over the next 69 years. They had three children-Marcia, Richard and Carol.

Sy had a life-long passion for fishing on Puget Sound and he and Marguerite were enthusiastic members of church choirs at Bethel and Calvin Presbyterian churches. Some of his favorite pieces to perform include Lascia ch'io pianga and Swing Low, Sweet Chariot. He was well known for singing the latter for any and all visitors right to the last days of his life.

Sy is survived by his children and grandchildren, Courtney and Graham, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife and siblings Ken, Howard, Phyllis and Robert.

His way of finding beauty and gratitude in each day is a gift given to everyone who knew him.
