Ralph Thompson Obituary

Mr. Ralph Thompson, passed away on February 10, 2017 after an extended illness. He was the son of Elmer and Isabel (Scruggs) Thompson, both deceased.
He is survived by his wife, Susan (Simpson) Thompson; daughter, Jennifer (Wayne) Williams; son, Jeremy Thompson, and three grandchildren, Jacob, Caroline, and Jess Williams.
Mr. Thompson was born in Beersheba Springs, Tennessee on June 27, 1947. He graduated from Tennessee Tech University in 1969 with a degree in Industrial Engineering. During his lifetime, he worked for Alcoa Aluminum, Union Carbide Nuclear, and TVA.
Mr. Thompson gave back to his community through his years of volunteer work with Emergency Services. He was a graduate of the State Police Academy and was a certified law enforcement officer. He was also a graduate and instructor at the State Fire Academy and an early member of the EMT National Registry having graduated from one of the first EMT classes in the 1970. Most recently, he collaborated with the National Institute of Health to further ALS research.
Mr. Thompson also served several years as a Deacon at the Hixson (Clear Creek) Church of Christ and in most recent years was a member of Dallas Bay Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home (Hixson) from 4 to 7 PM on Friday, February 17. A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 18 at 11:00 AM in the funeral home chapel. Following the service, family and friends are invited to attend a wake at Camp Dixie in Soddy Daisy, TN.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the ALS Society or Dallas Bay Baptist Church.
Arrangements were provided by North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, Hixson, TN.

I will miss Ralph very much. An indefatigable researcher and scholar in the years I knew him, as we researched things together via the internet. He didn't let on that he was confined to a wheelchair.

Ralph's contributions to the preservation and dissemination of the history of Beersheba Springs and the entire Grundy County area are immeasurable.
