Raman Basha Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jul. 3 to Jul. 4, 2021.
Dr. Raman Michel Basha SAN DIEGO, CA - The world has lost a great healer, Dr. Raman Michel Basha, 69, of San Diego, CA, died of natural causes June 20, 2021. Raman was born in Charleston, SC November 11, 1951, the son of Michel Richard Basha and Simone Farah Basha, formerly of Beirut, Lebanon. Raman is survived by his brother, Robert M. Basha (Debbie), sister, Colette Basha Holmes (Connie G. Holmes dec,) daughters, Amy Saadeh (Charles), Ayla Basha, granddaughter, Savannah, nephews, Charles Davenport, Robert Basha (Eyren), Michael Basha, and nieces, Simone and Arden Holmes. He was a graduate of Charleston Day School, Porter Gaud, San Diego State University and Emperors College of Oriental Medicine in Los Angeles, CA. Raman was bigger than life, proud of his Lebanese heritage, loved people, surfing, yoga, biking, hiking and most of all healing others. Raman was a surfing mentor to many who grew up in Charleston and his legacy remains so to this day. His ability to switch stance while hitting the crest of a wave was ahead of its time during the 60s and 70s. He leaves a huge following of surfing friends who look forward to seeing him again on that perfect wave in our next life. Raman epitomized a Renaissance man as he was accomplished in all of his pursuits: surfing, filmmaking, photography, acupuncture and oriental medicine. Surfing was a lifelong passion. He enjoyed waves all over the world, sharing beautiful pictures and videos of his creative visions. He reinvented himself on the west coast becoming an acupuncturist and having a lifelong career of healing, traveling the planet while helping thousands of people with his acquired skills. His untimely passing was crushing to his family, friends and patients. He will be sorely missed. The positive affect he had on everyone he met will endure even as his soul travels from this earthly plane to whatever rewards await him, as he lead a life with grace, kindness and compassion. Our brother, blessings upon you and your immortal soul as you continue to inspire all of us that remain here on this earth. Your absence leaves a void that can never be filled. You are a joy to have as a brother. Celebration of Life to be on the beach at the Windjammer, Isle of Palms, Wed., July 21, 6:30 pm. Surf Reunion Paddle Out 8 am Sun, Sept 5. I met Basha on a flight and it was the best flight ever! We stayed in touch, which mainly consisted of me asking him loads of questions and gaining such valuable insights from this wise and accomplished man. So sorry to learn of his passing. God bless you Basha

Colette and Bobby, I am sorry for your loss. I was fortunate to consider Ramon a friend for more than 40 years. He was very special in so many ways. We last spoke in November around his birthday. He always spoke so highly of both of you. It is so hard to believe he is gone.

I´m shocked and saddened. Raman made me laugh so much every time I saw him. He loved telling me stories about his Lebanese heritage and experiences in Lebanon. I will miss him dearly. Rest In Peace my friend

Basha was a very dear friend whom I have known for 2 decades. I found this poem to read at my fathers funeral, it helped. You now have a very special guardian angel watching over you all, my deepest condolences and love to you all.

Welcome home

When I am gone release me
Let me go,
I have so many things to see and do
You mustn't tie yourself to me with tears
Be happy that we had so many beautiful years
I gave to you my love
You can only guess how much you gave me in happiness
I thank you for the love you each have shown
But now it's time I travel alone
So grieve awhile for me, if grieve you must
Then let your grief be comforted by my trust
It's only for awhile that we must part
So bless the memories within your heart
I won't be far away, for life goes on
So if you need me, call and I will come
Though you can't see or touch me, I'll be near
And if you listen within your heart you'll hear
All my love around you soft and clear
And then when you must come this way alone
I'll greet you with a smile and say
Welcome Home.

Raman Basha and George Paul were the best surfers in the State of South Carolina back in the 60's and 70's. It's a fact proven out by a State Collegiate Surfing Championship Contest held in the 70's. Raman from the College of Charleston, George (who had transferred to the Babtist College) and myself, from The Citadel competed. Raman took 1st, George-2nd and myself - 3rd. It was an honor to have competitively surfed with these two legendary great surfers and friends.

I met Raman when he was in his late teens. He had the most remarkable ability to stay focussed on his goals combined with being a tremendous amount of fun. It is heartbreaking that Raman left this earth but it brings great joy to see he followed his path and was able to manifest so many wonderful things by using his unique gifts. His beautiful, light-filled being is still shining somewhere and somehow we can feel it.

Oh, Colette and Bobby, how sorry, truly sorry, I was to read about Raman. I don't know how to get in touch with you. I don't do facebook and "computer" things. Please call me. I want to know how you are. I loved Raman and remember when he and Simone came to see me in San Francisco. Your mother wore my kimono because she wanted, as always, to feel feminine. I adored her, so did my mother. They have him in their arms. I love you both. Molly

Bobby and Colette:
Please accept my sincere sympathy on the passing of your dear brother.
I have so many fond memories of our early fun days together growing up in the old neighborhood! I also still remember your beautiful and elegant
mother, Miss Simone, and the warm hospitality and kindness she always extended to me: AL Lean is a good boy!
God bless Raman and God bless both of you and your families.
Sincerely,

I only knew Raman for a few short years. During that time I quickly learned just how passionate he was when it came to his callings. I wish I had met him earlier, but like may others, I am incredibly thankful for the positive influence he had on me. I look forward to hopefully seeing him on the next plane of existence so we can continue our conversations and surf the waves of eternity. My condolences to all of the family and everyone that knew Raman.

So very sad to hear of Ramon´s passing. I cannot recall ever being around him as a fellow student or athlete when he wasn´t bringing a smile to my face and most who got to know him. His senior project at Porter-Gaud, where we were classmates, opened my eyes to things I´d lived around all my life but never seen before.
