Born January 12, 1930, passed away peacefully at his home in Red Oak, TX, on January 7, 2018, with his family by his side. He is survived by his daughter Mercedes and husband Joe Garcia; son, Ramon and wife Elsa Gonzales; 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Visitation will be from 6-8pm on Thursday, January 11, 2018. Funeral Service will be at 10am on Friday, January 12, 2018. Both services will be held at Laurel Land Funeral Home, 6000 South R.L. Thornton Freeway, Dallas, TX 75232. Ramon was preceded in death by his brothers, Roberto Ortega Gallegos, Jose Felipe Reyes and Valentine Gallegos; and sisters Fabiana Reyes, Francisca Jaquez, Suse Gallegos, Teresa Soto and Concha Nervaiz. Born in Barnhart, TX, Ramon worked from an early age helping to support his parents Francisco Gonzales and Paula Ortega Gonzales. After graduating from Ozona High School, Ramon attended Sam Houston State Teachers College in Huntsville, TX from September 1949 until May 1950. In 1951, Ramon served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was awarded the Korean Service Medal with a Bronze Star, a UN Service Medal, and an Over Seas Bar. Once discharged, Ramon returned to Texas and attended barber school in Dallas. While in Dallas, Ramon met and married his best friend Eva Ruiz Gonzales. They married in 1954 and had 56 wonderful years together as husband and wife. Ramon started barbering in 1953 and eventually owned his first Barbershop in East Oak Cliff on South Lancaster Road. In 1970, he purchased another barbershop and moved his business to 355 W. Jefferson Blvd. in West Oak Cliff. He remained at this location for over 40 years serving generations of customers. While he cut hair he loved to drink coffee and whistle or sing his favorite hymns. He never said a bad word about anyone. Customers sought his counsel, and he freely shared his faith. Ramon was a very generous man. He was always willing to help the community, and those who could not afford to pay for their haircuts. Even after working long hours he would make trips to home bound customers to cut their hair. Ramon served as church treasurer for 22 years at Primera Iglesia Bautista. He was ordained a Deacon on May 31, 1964 and served the church for many years. He will be missed by many who called him daddy, pepaw, peeps, hermano and friend.

My name is Brenda Fulce, your sweet Dad cut my Husband's hair for years until he retired. My husband, David always told Ramon that when he died he wanted him to do his hair, this is why I have been searching for your Dad. Guess my husband & your Dad are having a very Blessed visit. I am truly sorry for your loss but know we will see both of them again one day soon!!!

Dear family of Ramon,
I just tried to call your Dad to see how he was doing since he hadn't been to Whitney in a while. I got a disconnected number and had a bad feeling, so I did a google search and found his obituary. I am so saddened to read of his passing and am so terribly sorry for your loss. He was one of the sweetest and most gentle men I have ever met. I will dearly miss our phone conversations and 'over the fence' visits. He's with your precious Mom now and together, they are watching over your dear family.
I am blessed to have known both your Mom and Dad and will never forget them. They were amazing people. May God comfort all of you as you continue to adjust to life without him.
Love and prayers ...

Dear Raymond was my 101 year old father, Pioquinto's barber from the time his shop was located near the Veterans Administration Hospital in Oak Cliff. He became a beloved friend in Christ. We were so happy to see him getting a haircut, accompanied by his son at the Jefferson shop where he worked a long time. Raymond beloved friend of so many, you have entered the Kingdom and been received by God's wondrous and mysterious Love. Thanks be to God.

My deepest condolences to the family and friends during this difficult time. There are no words that can describe the pain of losing someone so beloved. May you find comfort and peace in knowing that your loved one is in God's memory because those who pass on "are precious in his eyes." Psalms 116:15; 1 John 4:9

Raymond & Mercy, our thoughts and prayers are with you and the rest of your family. Martha and I only have good memories of Bro. Raymond! Your father touched and influenced many lives and I had the great honor of knowing him. He always had the nicest way of greeting a person and his ever-present smile truly reflected his love for Jesus. Bro. Raymond has our highest respect ... he was undoubtedly a great person and will always be my friend.

Ramon,
I am so sorry to learn of your fathers passing. I so appreciated the bond that he had with my father for so many years. When I was a kid, I too had your Dad cut my hair as my Dad and I went along for our monthly visits. I always thought it was a great treat to sit up in his big chair, see his warm smile, hear of his great stories and have that hot lather neck shave when the haircut was over.
I sincerely look forward to hanging out in heaven with your Dad. If my hair grows back there (bald now) it would be a great honor to have Dad give me my next haircut!!
I don't know you but I love you through your family, brother. I'm praying for your family at this time of loss.
