Dr. Randal "Randy" Craig Kumm

Dentist and former veteran, Dr. Randal "Randy" Craig Kumm died December 28, 2024, in Missoula, Montana. He was 69.

Randy was born May 13, 1955, in Denver, Colorado and grew up in the suburb of Aurora. When he was 8 years old, he decided he wanted to become a dentist. After graduating from Aurora Central High School, Randy attended the University of Colorado at Denver. After obtaining a bachelor's degree in biology, he went on to the University of Colorado Dental School. He worked hard to put himself through school and graduated in 1983. Randy went on to become a military dentist with the US Navy Dental Corps, and later the US Army Dental Corps. Randy retired from the army in 2005.

As a military dentist, Randy's duty stations included Naval Station, Great Lakes, Illinois; Taukkunen Barracks, Worms, Germany; Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, Texas; Fort Stewart, Hinesville, Georgia; Fort Carson, Colorado Springs, Colorado; and Ray Barracks, Friedberg, Germany.

While stationed at Fort Stewart, Randy served as the division dentist for the 3rd Infantry Division at Camp Casey, South Korea, near the Demilitarized Zone in 1997. He was also division dentist for the 1st Armored Division which was deployed to Iraq in 2003 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

After retiring, Randy became head of dental services for the Metro Community Provider Network in Aurora, Colorado.

Randy was married to his high school sweetheart, denise Cowan for 33 years. The couple had two children. Traveling was a true passion of Randy's and while living in Germany he and his family enjoyed visiting countries throughout Europe. Music was another passion of Randy's. He began piano lessons while in elementary school. He would often play at parties and was an accompanist for the choirs in junior high and high school.

Randy was a talented, funny, smart and hard-working dentist who served his country faithfully while providing for his family.

Randy is survived by his former wife, denise; children, Paige Amanda Kumm and Gillian Brooke Kumm; and his brother, Jeffrey Scott Kumm.
