Randolph Smith Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 20, 2011.
Randolph Edward Smith was born on December 1, 1966 to Felix and Robbie Nell Smith in Oakland. California. His parents and older brother Robert preceded him in death. Randolph accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Progressive Baptist Church in Berkeley, California where he was named in honor of the late Reverend Edward Stoval. He was born Randolph, but preferred to be called Randy or Smitty.

Randy was educated at Peralta Elementary School, Woodrow Middle School, Oakland Tech High School in Oakland, California, Santa Rosa Junior College in Santa Rosa, California, and Whitworth University in Spokane, Washington, where he excelled in academies and sports; playing basketball at Oakland Tech High School, Santa Rosa Junior College and Whitworth University. He loved all sports, but was passionate about basketball, with the Lakers being his favorite team and Magic Johnson, being his all time favorite player. Being from Oakland, he was of course a huge Oakland Raiders fan. His loud and boisterous voice would not go unrecognized when he entered a room. He was a complete jokester. He always cared about young people and encouraged them to excel and be productive citizens in society.
Randy had an old "soul" so he connected well with the elderly.

By trade, Randy worked in the construction industry until the birth of his son Randolph Junior and soon after
became an excellent stay-at-home dad until his last days. Randy's dynamic personality and charismatic demeanor attracted many friends from all walks of life. Randy was a true family man who provided, protected and adored dearly.

Randy leaves behind his loving wife, Monica; three daughters, Paris Bradley Fox, Aleisha Hathaway, and Kennedy Smith; two sons, Jordan Smith and Randolph Smith Junior; mother-in-law Billie Lois Davis; father-in-law George Cansler; six sister-in-laws, five brothers-in- laws, uncle and aunt Spencer and GustelIa Shavers; aunts, Clymie Allen and Beverly Cansler; his close cousins, Yetta and Loeta Shavers, Neaundra and Keith Stinson, Kevin Blue; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Smitty...its been a year here without you and my heart still aches without your presence. You will forever be a integral part of me as that one person that has impacted my life. I've learned so much about myself from you and it has made me a better person. Your giving heart has been the anchor to our relationship and will forever remain a part of me. Even though you are not here with me, I have received the greatest gift that will forever keep your spirit alive. When I look into our sons eyes, I see you. When I hear our daughter speak, she speaks with confidence just like you. God decided to take you home at a time in which we will never understand. We always used to say that everything happens for a reason. The reason could be your illness allowing other to be more aware and get check-ups early. It could be to help others cherish family and their loved ones now, not after they're gone. We will miss you but you will never be forgotten.

Your wife,

Monica

Randy,
It was a true pleasure playing basketball with you at Whitworth. I still remember you breaking the Dunk Meter in the Kibbie Dome when we played Idaho. What a talent! You taught me a lot about acceptance along the way. I will miss your kindness and calm nature. You and your family are in our prayers.

When Ed told me that you were ill, I immediately called your hospital room! The last time we spoke you told me "don't worry about me lil sis, I'm going to be alright!" And I know you were telling me that so I wouldn't be sad or worry! Well now I know that you are alright with our Heavenly Father above! I may not have spoken to you on the regular but I know that the times were precious and worth while! I will always remember the support you gave me while I was in Oregon and you were in Washington! You were always a special brother that had been added to my life through my brother! You will be truly missed my brother in Christ! May your family continue to be blessed!!!

Thanks for the laughs and the memories. Your loud voice "like no other" will never be forgotten. You fought long, and you fought hard til the end. Rest in peace now brother.

What is most important in life is how we live, not how long we live. That Randy, he certainly demonstrated the importance of "How to live" how to love life, and how to love your family.. Monica, you and your family are very blessed to have shared your life with him. My prayer is that God will forever let you remember all of the good.

Randy, Surely you are missed. We will never forget that loud voice & laughter. No matter where we were especially out eating everyone would turn around to see who was being so loud. Thanks for the good times. You have been a great friend (Brother) to Sean & I, with a big heart. You were always very genuine and we love you always. We will always be here for you Monica, RJ and Kenney Wenny! Rest In Peace! With all of our love.

Our Dearest Randy, you will always be in our hearts...Section 117/118 has not been the same since you and the family stopped coming regularly to the games. We had some wonderful times. Talking crazy, having drinks, eating ourselves silly, passing poor Kennedy around like she was a basketball and spoiling RJ with candy! I will forever remember the last game you came too and how everyone was so excited too see you and how you held "court" at the top because the stairs were too much...You are and will always be our brother and friend! Rest now...Love you!

Randy was a very warm, and kind person. I met him twice, and my husband and I loved his gentle spirit. May Randy, and my beloved husband David, rest in peace as they have finished their time here on earth this year. Absence from the body means they are present with the Lord.

Randy, It seems like yesterday that we were running the streets of Oakland thinking that we were grown and having things our way. It has been a long time since those carefree days and our friendship has endured the test of time. When you would return to Oakland it was as if we hadn't been apart, and we picked up where we left off. The same could be said for when I visited you in southern California and I guess that because we had a genuine and a love for one another like brothers because that's what we were to one another. You were bigger than life in stature and character and had an unforgettable being. It's hard to believe my friend is gone, but I know you are in a better place, pain free and no more of suffering. It has been a pleasure to have had an opportunity to be in your life, and I look forward to reuniting with you when my number is called. I love you! Your friend/bother Mitch Adams

Dear Monica,
I know this is a difficult time for you and the children but God is hearing every sigh and counting every tear. How wonderful He(God) has been through it all; for when man had given Randy six months to live, his Creator granted him several more years. May the goodness of God and the precious memory of those extra days, serve to bring joy to your heart.

Randy - My memories of you will remain dear in my heart, the look on your face at your wedding when you saw your bride Monica; sitting in the first two rows at the Lakers Game calling all your friends; the day you came to the office with RJ in tow to show off your new truck; and when you would call Monica at work and always ask me "when are we going to turn-it-on in Vegas"?!
I will always remember your kind sprit, beautiful smile, contagious laugh and larger than life personality that lit up a room. Your courage and strength is an inspiration to all who had the honor of knowing you and calling you friend. May god keep his loving arms around your family.
