Randy Herman Obituary

Published by The Province from Feb. 16 to Feb. 17, 2006.
HERMAN _ Randy Martin, born January 19th, 1952 in Drumheller, Alberta. Randy died peacefully on February 13th, 2006 at Ridge Meadows Hospital surrounded by family and friends after a courageous battle with cancer. Randy grew up in East Coulee Alberta until the age of 19 when he joined the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in 1971. Randy was in his 35th year of service at the time of his death. He loved the time he spent in all the communities he found himself living and working in. He enjoyed the community aspect of policing and none did it better than he. Randy was instrumental in the development of the School liaison program and worked closely with the students in dry grad, S.A.D.D. and I.C.B.C.'s safety programs. For many years he was actively involved with the Kiwanis Club of Golden Ears and served as the Lieutenant Governor for the Pacific Northwest. Randy is remembered for his love and devotion to the R.C.M.P. auxiliary program and for the past years has devoted his time building the program to better the community. He was passionate about life and his family, but once a year hunting with his buddies took precedent against anything else. Randy's life personified courage, tenacity, stamina and dedication. Randy is survived by his loving wife Tammy, their two sons, Sheldon and Tyler, his mother Matilda Herman and his brother William Herman both of Drumheller, Alberta. Also survived by his mother-in-law Jeannine Franklin, brother-in-law Daniel Franklin and his sister-in-law Roberta Marochi. He is predeceased by his father William Herman in 1980 and his father-in-law Robert Franklin in 1998. The family would like to express our sincere gratitude for all the loving care and support Randy has received throughout his illness by his wonderful medical team of doctors and nurses. A celebration of Randy's life will be held on Monday, February 20th, 2006 at 14:00 hours (2 p.m.) at the Maple Ridge Baptist Church on 22155 Lougheed Hwy, Maple Ridge. Reception will follow immediately after the service at the same location. The family respects the dedication, commitment and risk that the men and women of Ridge Meadows Search and Rescue team take on a daily basis to serve their community. In Randy's memory the family hope to purchase a hovercraft and so in lieu of flowers, they are requesting donations to the Ridge Meadows Search & Rescue Hovercraft Fund, located at 23598 105 Ave., Maple Ridge, B.C. V2W 1B8.

Tammie,

I am very saddened to hear of the passing of Randy. My heart goes out to you and the boys. I had the pleasure of working with Randy, and sometimes yourself, while being a member of Kiwanis in Maple Ridge. Randy was truly a great leader and motivator of people. He will be greatly missed. Love Cheri

Tammy, Sheldon and Tyler - I am sorry for your loss. Please accept my Prayers and thoughts at this time of sorrow.

I had the honour of working with Randy for many years. He was one of the most dedicated and down to earth people I have ever known. We often talked about his roses and compared notes and thoughts about our photography. He brought so much joy into this life and will be greatly missed by many.
