Randy Smith Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 2, 2023.
Randy J. Smith, 68, of Quincy, Indiana, passed away on July 24, 2023. Randy was born on July 2, 1955, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Edward and Gertrude (Weilhammer) Smith. He was a retired truck driver and a 1973 graduate of Speedway High School.

Randy was a loving and caring individual who deeply cherished his family. He had a special knack for striking up conversations with anyone he met, never knowing a stranger. His generosity and kindness were well-known, and he always went out of his way to help others.

In his free time, Randy enjoyed working on his property and riding his John Deere tractor. Randy had a passion for racing and eagerly supported his son, Dan and granddaughter, Schylar, at the Paragon Speedway. Randy was looking forward to next year when his granddaughter Layla would join them on the track. He took pleasure in teaching Schylar and Layla valuable life lessons, always sharing his wisdom with a touch of his signature "his way or the highway" style.

Randy is survived by his loving spouse, Rhonda (Adkins) Smith; his son, Daniel Joseph Smith (Jessica); his granddaughters, Schylar and Layla Smith; his brothers, Gary Smith (Wanda) and Kurt Smith (Jan); his sisters, Elaine O'Neal and Janet Sellmeyer, and his best friend, Maggie, their loyal German Shepherd. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Annette Moore.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 12, 2023, beginning at 2:00 pm, at the Life Line Baptist Church Life Center, located at 13387 N Slideoff Road, Camby, Indiana 46113. Food will be served.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that contributions be made to your local organ donation center in Randy's honor. Randy was the lucky recipient of a liver 12 years ago and believed strongly in the gift of life.

Randy will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all those who had the pleasure of knowing him. His loving spirit, warm personality, and dedication to his family will forever be remembered.

He was such a presence. I still smile thinking of "she is still on probation." I was so thrilled there was someone who loved yoi so much and that you were happy. I know you must miss him so much.

I´m so very very sorry to hear of Randy´s passing. I went to school in Speedway with Randy & remember him as kind and funny. A few years after high school, my (rescue) dog jumped our fence, headed up Winton & was hit by a car near Randy´s house. He took her to a vet immediately not knowing anything about the huge dog. She `Phoebe´ had a badly broken leg ... If it wasn´t for Randy, she would have died.
We loved Phoebe who lived a very long life. Thank you Randy, RIP Blessings to your loving family.

I remember meeting Randy the first time. He was with my dear friend, Rhonda and they stayed with me in Florida. When we met again I was dating my husband. We met again and I was married. I remember him saying "she´s on probation" talking about Rhonda and we laughed until we cried. His humor drew you in. I was so happy for my dear friend that she had found someone to love her as she deserved. I am so sorry and know it will be a void. I know you have wonderful memories you can grab in the hard times.
