Rosina South Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Feb. 16 to Feb. 17, 2013.
Rosina South
April 8, 1925 - February 14, 2013
Rosina May South, age 87, of Pocatello, Idaho, passed away on February 14, 2013 due to an extended illness. Rose, as her family and friends called her, was born April 8, 1925 in Plymouth, England, to William Frederick Fackrell and Queenie Lilly Gigg. As a young child, Rose attended church school, Church of England. She prided herself in memorization of biblical verses.
Her father served in the British military and the family lived for a time in housing at the Citadel on the coast of Plymouth. Rose joined the Royal British Air Force at the onset of WWII. She met and later married Fred G.W. South, who was in the U.S. 8TH Army Air Force. They were married on April 27, 1944 in Kettering, England and spent their honeymoon in Edinburgh, Scotland. As a WWII war bride, she and 8-month old baby Carole traveled by ship to the U.S. Fred and Rose made their first home in Ashland, Oregon. Daughters Geraldine (Gerri) and Linda were born, and in 1953 the family relocated to Emmett, Idaho. Much of the family's life was later spent in Boise Idaho, where Rose worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant and private duty nurse. Rose and Fred moved to Pocatello, Idaho in 1982.
Rose was very talented when it came to knitting, crocheting, sewing and homemaking. Her knitting and crocheting skills were self-taught during the war. Her knit men's argyle socks were in high demand, earning her a little extra spending money. She prided herself on making Easter dresses for her three girls and in later years made all three daughter's wedding gowns. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren all enjoyed the many sweaters and toys she knitted and crocheted for them.
One of her greatest joys was when she became a U. S. citizen. She was so proud! Rose will be remembered for her strength and fortitude, her somewhat contained humor, natural stubbornness, and most of all for her love of family.
Rose was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Fred, and grandson James. Rose is survived by daughters Carole Weber, Surprise, AZ; Gerri (Gale) Baker, Spokane, WA; and Linda (Chris) Bergmans, Chubbuck, ID; and brother Ken Fackrell, Plymouth, England. She is also survived by four grandchildren; Richard (Brenda) Campbell, Surprise, AZ; Tina (Rod) Jackson, Chubbuck, ID; Scott (Joanna) Baker, Spokane, WA; and Kerry (Darren) Meekin, Los Angeles, CA, and nine great grandchildren.
Viewing will be at Downard Funeral Home, 241 North Garfield Ave. in Pocatello, Idaho, from 12:30 to 1:30pm, on Tuesday, Feb 19th, followed with graveside services at 2:00pm at Restlawn Cemetery.
