I have just gotten word today about this precious soul leaving this earth and going to glory. Raquel, I didn't know you really well but I did know well is that you were full of joy, love, dreams, and a huge heart! My heart breaks for everyone you ever knew because their hearts I know are broken! I am a blessed person to have gotten to spend time with you, cutting your hair, shopping, and walking into magnolia and within seconds you grabbing my arm and giving me a big huge and catching up! You were FULL OF LIFE!! I won't ever forget those moments and those dreams you were telling me about. I know you're living the best dream possible right now but we sit here missing you!

Wow. I am so heartbroken and shocked. I met Raquel while we were working at Magnolia. My husband and I were brand new to town and Raquel quickly gave me hope about our new place. She befriended me and we spent countless hours working together and talking design. Raquel had THE most genuine and real heart that I have ever met and understood the beauty in simplicity. She had this soft humility and kindness that was so rare and authentic. We truly lost one of the best but what a beautiful mark she left on this world.

I met Raquel at Texas State. I remember sitting at a table all alone and she sat next to me. We quickly became friends and always picked each other to work with. She was so amazingly smart, artistic, fashionable, and genuine. She greatly influenced me without me knowing it. I'll never forget asking about her Skagen Watch and madewell handbag... shortly later I had a skagen Watch and madewell handbag. I'll never forget our study sessions, conversations, and coffee. Even after graduation we made it a point to keep in contact and remain professional contacts. The little time I knew her, I knew she was golden. Just seeing the amount of love outpoured for her only makes me wish I had more time to spend wit her.
I pray that God be there with the family and hold you tight as your days ahead will be tough. I pray that the Holy Spirit offers you peace and comfort. I pray for Raquel, that she Rest In Peace and rejoices in the arms of our almighty Lord Jesus.

I hadn't talked to Raquel since I was in high school and she was a Young Life leader that I only had a handful of conversations and interactions with but each was genuine and sincere.

In April of 2016, my dad died of pancreatic cancer. For his memorial, I made this video https://vimeo.com/164204522
and put it on my facebook and shared it.

On November 1st, 2016 I received this message from her, though we hadn't spoken in a long time.

"Hi Sydney, I've been meaning to reach out to you months ago but I wanted to let you know I saw the video you made for your Dad and i cried harder than I have in a while. I obviously didn't know your Dad but watching that video made me see a glimpse of how incredible your Dad was; so full of life, love and laughter. I'm so sorry for the loss of your Dad and I just want you to know that if that touched me I'm sure that is touching and impacting so many people. You're in my prayers and thoughts"

I cried reading this message and I cry reading this again because who would've thought that a little over a year later, I would be relaying such a message to you.

That I have looked over pictures of her, read words people shared, and cried harder than I have in a while. I obviously didn't know Raquel like you but she was incredible; so full of life, love, and laughter. I am so sorry for your loss and I wanted you to know that if she has touched me she is touching and impacting so many people. Your family and friends are in my thoughts and prayers.

There are no words to adequately articulate loss. I am so sorry.

There's not many people in life I can say I remember the day I met them, but the day I met Raquel stands out. I was a freshman at Texas State, and I was shopping at their families thrift store (my favorite San Marcos spot). Raquel and I sparked up a conversation, and clicked immediately. I have not met anyone like her to this day-her creativity, her positivity, her depth, and her joy were contagious. She was such an inspiring person to be around, and people gravitated to her. We became fast friends and I have great memories of swing dancing in Austin with her, scrapbooking and journaling, writing and playing music together. She introduced me to all of her friends and brought me into her community with such intentionality. That is hard to find these days and I cherish her for being such a kind friend to me during a new season of life.

Raquel, it is so clear that you have been the person you were to me to so many others. It was just who you were- a ray of light and compassion. It hurts me that you are no longer on this earth with us, and I grieve for all those in your life who don't get to be in your presence anymore. As a newly wed myself, I cannot imagine the pain Travis is feeling. I am so sorry for your great loss, Travis.

Holding all of your in my heart during this time of great pain.

My heart is broken for your sweet family. I met Raquel when she came to work where I work. We instantly bonded. Her spirit was so sweet and her smile lit up the room. I too have lost a child the same age as Raquel and I am so sorry because I know your pain. Travis, my heart goes out to you. There are no words. You all will be in my prayers. I pray that you will feel The Lords presence during this difficult time and that somehow her precious memories will ease the pain little by little.

Raquel, you were a rare beauty and a light to everyone who met you. Your sweetness and kindness was always so warm to be around. Your giggle, your funny impressions, your French accent! I can't forget the time we danced in the rain together in the drive way at Holmsted Manor. I danced in honour of you today and know that you are dancing in heaven now. I know Jesus has you in His arms and I can't wait to dance with you again one day.
My prayers, thoughts and tears are with your dear family.
God's hands are able, they can keep you, they can hold you and He is with you.
