Rashid Makhdomi Obituary

Dr. A. Rashid Makhdomi

May 11, 1938 - September 10, 2024

It is with deep sorrow and enduring love that we announce the passing of Dr. Makhdomi, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and healer, who left this world on September 10, 2024.

A man of quiet strength and deep compassion, Dr. Makhdomi dedicated his life to the care of others, both in his profession as a physician and in his personal life. He served as Chairman of Medicine for many years, guiding with wisdom, integrity, and humility. Despite the many accolades and awards he received throughout his career, he remained genuinely surprised by them-always believing he was simply doing his work. For him, medicine was never just a profession; it was a calling to care for others as if they were his own.

Many of his patients were more than just individuals in need-they were families he followed through generations. He became a part of their lives, their stories, and in many ways, their families. His presence brought comfort, his voice brought reassurance, and his care brought healing. He is deeply missed by all of them.

To his own family, he was a devoted husband to Jawahira Makhdomi, his beloved partner of 56 years, and a proud, loving father to Omar Makhdomi, Sabina Makhdomi, and Saira Makhdomi. His grandchildren, Camilo and Leyla, were his greatest delight and brightest light in his later years.

Writing this tribute was one of the most difficult things for our family. For a long time, it felt as though putting these words down would mean accepting the finality of his presence in our lives-and that was something we simply could not bear. His spirit is still with us, his love still felt. This is not an ending but a continued remembrance of a man who lives on in every act of love and care we extend to others.

He will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
