Raul Mancini Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 5, 2018.
Raul P. Mancini, age 92, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 3, 2018, with his two loving daughters by his side. Raul was predeceased by his first wife, Esther Shalling Mancini, who passed away in 1995, and his two sisters, Laura Mancini Schultz and Bea Mancini Allaer. He is survived by: his three children, Marianne Mancini Marcum, Chuck Mancini (Becky Mancini) and Barb Mancini Wilder (George Wilder); his seven grandchildren (Chet, Nathan, Nicholas, Jonathan, Matthew, Michael and Emily); his brother, Ray Mancini (Grace Mancini); his second wife, Doreen Angel Mancini; his stepdaughters, Hali Layton and Michelle Angel; his seven step grandchildren (Uriah, Leyla, Jesse, Jessica, Stacy, Laurie and Jori); and his 5 step great-grandchildren (Kate, Collin, Charlie, Doruk and Quinn).

Bullfighter, raconteur, hunter (deer, bear, duck, dove, alligator, capybara), cyclist, tenpin bowler, blowgun collector, and adventurer are some of the words that family and friends use to describe Raul. Born in Italy, he came to the U.S. as an infant, grew up in Detroit, MI, and became a U.S. citizen in 1944 at the age of 18 when he was drafted into the U.S. Army. After serving in the European Theater during WWII, he started a lifelong career with Chrysler, married Esther in 1958, and moved with her, their three children and a labrador retriever to Bogotá, Colombia in 1968, where they lived for 12 years before moving to Mexico. Raul loved Colombia and its culture, and he traveled extensively exploring the country, once crash landing in a DC3 while on a hunting trip, another time breaking an ankle while chasing a thief who stole Esther's purse, and always bargaining with locals to buy items of interest, from native art and emeralds to massive stalks of bananas and talking parrots. He also loved Italy, working at a Maserati joint venture late in his career, and visiting often to see extended family. Raul retired to South Florida in 1987. After the death of his beloved wife Esther, he was blessed to remarry and remain active, traveling the world, dancing and cycling until he was 89. Raul moved to North Carolina in 2017 to receive full-time care for his health needs and to be closer to his daughters.

Family and friends can pay their respects on Saturday, November 10, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., at Boynton Memorial Chapel, 800 W. Boynton Beach Boulevard, Boynton Beach, Florida, 33426. Raúl was a great gentleman who married my dear friend Doreen. Although the miles separated us, they managed to visit us in Az. I can still see them dancing on my patio. So hard to lose someone so dear but blessed to have had him in out lives. He would be so proud of the obituary you wrote about him.
