Ray Lawrence Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 12, 2012.
Ray Aldine Lawrence, a child of the King, was 77 when God took him home to be with Jesus. A resident of Georgetown, Texas, formerly of Long Beach, California, he passed away on Friday October 12, 2012 at Austin's Christopher House. A Memorial service will be held at Crestview Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 22nd. Ray was born on September 28, 1935 in Long Beach, California to Ralph Eugene Lawrence and Helen Mallett Lawrence. Ray is survived by his wife Martha, daughters, Dianna Becerra, husband David, of Georgetown and Brenda Farmer, husband John, of Placentia, CA. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Alicia Benson, Devin Turner, Alexandria Turner, Janette Ferreira and three great grandchildren, Christian Fitzsimmons, Owen Benson and Kaden Turner, also his sister Enola Lefler and her husband Clyde Lefler, Jr as well as a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Ralph Lawrence. Never let it be said that there is no such thing as love at first sight. When Ray saw Martha, and Martha saw Ray for the first time, in his sunglasses and leather jacket, they both knew their lives were destined to be together forever. Ray was an engineer with an engineer's mind, an engineer's pocketbook ( fiscal conservative) and an engineer's passion for order. You knew him by his walk and his love for life. His daughters were loved deeply by him and in return their love for their father was complete and unwavering. Ray was a structural engineer working for Rockwell International on the Apollo Space Program and the Space Shuttle Program. Some folks touch a life, some folks touch a community just by who they are. He enjoyed working in many community service projects such as meals on wheels, Toys for Tots, the Lion's Club vision screening for children, and a Guide at Camp Crestview for kids . As a volunteer he designed and installed wheelchair ramps for those with disabilities. He loved God and he loved people. Memorials in his name may be made to the American Cancer Society, Austin's Christopher House Hospice or Camp Crestview of Crestview Baptist Church in Georgetown, Texas. A Memorial service will be held at Crestview Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 22nd under the direction of Ramsey Funeral Home. You are invited to share a message or memory in the memorial guestbook at www.RamseyFuneral.com.
