Raymond Briones Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 6, 2017.
Raymond was born in Houston, Texas on June 4, 1933. He was the first born of 6 children to Florencio and Theresa Briones. He graduated from Jeff Davis High School in 1954. After high school, he was drafted at the end of the Korean war by the Army in 1955 and served until 1957. Anyone who knew Ray has heard his army stories. He was proud of his service and enjoyed sharing his military experiences while he was stationed in Colorado.

He married Consuelo Doyle on August 23, 1959 and they were married for 24 years. They had 3 children, Cynthia Briones Franssen, James Briones and Luis Briones. He loved to spend time with his 4 grandchildren, Ryan Briones, Alex Briones, Anne Marie Franssen, and Ashton Franssen.

Raymond personified what a strong work ethic meant during his entire working career. He began a painting business with our beloved Uncle Rex during the early 1960's. They were master painters who painted many of the finer homes in Houston's River Oaks neighborhood. Raymond continued to paint homes for his family and always painted with professional level craftmanship throughout his life. He went on to work for Snappy Snack Vending company from the early 1970's until he retired. He serviced vending routes for major companies throughout the Houston area. He was fondly known as the "candy man" to his customers and the neighborhood kids. He loved to bring home boxes of candy to the delight of his children and the neighborhood friends!

Ray never met a stranger and could talk to anyone about anything. He had the gift of gab and could take any subject and "run with it". Reading the Houston Chronicle from front to back was a daily habit he really enjoyed. He also loved to listen to big band music, Sinatra and traditional Mexican music. In his later senior years he enjoyed crafts, painting, baking cakes and yoga!

He is preceded in death by his father, mother, infant sister, and his brothers Christopher and Fernando Briones. He is survived by his sister Maria De Jesus Briones and brother Florencio Briones, Jr.

Raymond never hesitated to help in any capacity needed for friends, family and strangers. Raymond was one of the friendliest person you could ever meet. The stars are a little dimmer now and he will be deeply missed.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 10, 2017 from 5:00pm to 9:00pm at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home located at 6900 Lawndale Street, Houston, Texas. For Raymond and peace for the family. 2 Timothy 4:7-8
* I have competed well; I have finished the race;f I have kept the faith.

* From now on the crown of righteousness awaits me, which the Lord, the just judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me, but to all who have longed for his appearance.

I will miss my visits with Raymond. He became a good friend when I visited his roommate, Bob Brooks, at Harborview. His stories of growing up and living in Houston for so many years were always so interesting to me since I also grew up in Houston. I am so sorry to hear of his sudden passing. My condolences to his family.
