Raymond Chow Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 9, 2018.
Vancouver - Raymond Shu Kup Chow, 80, went to his eternal home with the Lord Jesus Christ on Monday, July 2, 2018 following a 5-month battle with cancer.

Born on January 25, 1938 in Kaiping (Hoiping), Guangdong (Kwangtung) Province, China to Sum Chuck & Mei Kiu Chow, he eventually sought to flee from communist China to Hong Kong and finally arrived in1957. In 1958 he immigrated to Canada as a 'paper son' and through the help of his uncle, he arrived in Vancouver and then joined up with his uncle & aunt in Midway, BC.

He managed to find a job in Vancouver later on and then enrolled for night class at Strathcona school to learn English. He earned his certificate from the Television & Electronics Institute and landed a job in Williams Lake as a TV technician for 2 years. During a vacation back in Vancouver, he applied to work with Wosks after seeing their ad posted at Woodward's. He was hired immediately.
After saving enough money to travel back to Hong Kong in 1968, he married Sau Han Wong in May 1969. A few months later they, along with his sister and her family all landed in Canada days following Neil Armstrong's historic landing on the moon.

He continued his work with Wosks until they closed their service department and he eventually opened his own electronics repair shop with his business partner. After developing some heart problems in the late 90's he retired in 2001, just 1½ years shy of his 65th birthday.

He enjoyed watching numerous sports but hockey was at the top of the list. Collecting coins and stamps was also another hobby in his earlier years. In his later years of life, he finally got some grandkids to enjoy his time with.

It is significant to note that although faith had not been a part of his life, his very recent expression of trust in Jesus is a comfort for those of us who also put our hope in Christ. We, who are in Christ, will all one day be reunited in the Lord. Though he is absent from his body he is present with the Lord and so we miss his presence here.

He leaves behind his wife of 49 years, Sau Han (Wong) Chow; his daughters Brenda, Amy (Jason) Martin, Rita (Dwayne) Myatt; his son Colin (Hailey); and grandchildren (Adriel; Cierra, Mackenzie; and Chloe). He was preceded in death by his parents, brother and just 9 ½ months ago, his sister (Fay Kam Wong of Toronto).

Burial service will be private for the immediate family. A memorial will take place on Saturday, July 14 at 230 p.m. at Mountainview Christian Fellowship in Vancouver with a reception to follow.

The family has requested no flowers or donations. If giving is important at this time, please consider making your donation to InspireHealth. They offer programs and services to support and enhance the quality of life for people living with cancer and their families. https://www.inspirehealth.ca/donate/makeadonation/
