RAYMOND CHARLES GIEDRAITIS passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 7, 2009 in Naples, FL. He was born on January 23, 1923 to Charles and Helen Sintau Giedraitis in New Britain, CT. He leaves his wife of 58 years, Jane Roberts Giedraitis, two sons, Satish Roberts Freeman of Ashland, OR, Kite Giedraitis of Portland, OR and daughter, Lisa Fox of North Reading, MA. Other survivors are his grandchildren, Jia Giedra, Kiersten and Dylan Fox, and two brothers, Vincent Giedraitis of Vernon, CT and Edward Giedraitis of Cromwell, CT. He received a B.A. From Yale University, Class of 1945W and a Bachelor of Architecture from Yale School of Architecture in 1948. During World War II he served in the US Navy as an Ensign on destroyer escorts and was later a Lieutenant JG in the Naval Reserve. He worked with several architectural firms including Harrison & Abramovitz in NYC on the UN HQ project. Later he mainly designed hotels, first as an associate with William B. Tabler Assoc., then had his own practice in NYC and Greenwich, CT. Upon retirement he studied religion, history and philosophy, writing many essays for the Darien-New Canaan Unitarian Society. The Giedraitises lived in Seattle, San Francisco, Manhattan, Bronxville, NY, Greenwich, CT and Marblehead, MA. In 2006, they became Naples residents, summering in Marblehead. A memorial service will be held at Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Greater Naples, 6340 Napa Woods Way, Naples, FL 34116 on Monday, February 16, at 3:00 p.m. Contributions in Ray's memory may be made to Dingletown Community Church, P.O. Box 951, Greenwich, CT 06836.
