Raymond Herrmann Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 13, 2025.
Raymond Francis Herrmann ("Ray") passed away peacefully on July 28, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was 75 years old.

Ray was born on May 3, 1950, in Spearville, Kansas, to Billie and Gerald Herrmann. One of five children, he grew up on the family farm in Kinsley, KS, a place that shaped his deep work ethic, love of the land, and quiet strength.

At the age of 19, Ray was drafted into the U.S. Army and deployed to Vietnam in 1969, where he served as a Sergeant Point Scout, leading his unit into every situation. His bravery and service earned him two Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart. He completed his military service in 1971 and returned home a hero, though he never sought recognition for it.

Shortly after returning home, Ray reconnected with his high school sweetheart, Mary Beth Heinz. The two married and moved to California, where Ray began working in construction, installing metal siding in the Mojave Desert heat. In 1978, they settled in Dallas, TX, where Ray found his true calling in custom home carpentry. Over the next 45 years, he built a career as a master trim carpenter known for his meticulous craftsmanship, passion for building, and tireless work ethic until his retirement in 2021.

Ray and Mary's family grew with the births of their three children: Ryan, Blake, and Skylar. Ray was the ultimate father and family man: playful, patient, endlessly devoted, and always present. A child at heart himself, he filled their home with joy, laughter, and life lessons. There wasn't a sport, trade, or topic he couldn't teach, and he dedicated every ounce of his free time to his family.

In 1997, Ray fulfilled a lifelong dream when he built the family's home in Prosper, TX, a peaceful haven that blended his love of the land with the spirit of his childhood farm. That home became the backdrop to countless cherished memories with friends and family, and the place where he spent his final days.

In retirement, Ray found immense joy in being "Pops" to his grandchildren, spending time outdoors, and caring for the homestead he built with his own hands. His unmatched energy, warm humor, and generous spirit touched all who knew him.

The world lost a selfless, humble, kind, funny, hard-working, and tough-as-nails man, father and husband this July. If anyone had the chance to ask how he's doing in his new home up above, he'd simply respond, "I'm fine." We love and miss you "Ray," "Dad," "Pops."

Ray was preceded in death by his father, Gerald. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Mary; his mother, Billie; his children: Ryan and his wife Beth, and their daughter Ryleigh; Blake and his wife Ginny, and their children Raelyn and Brody; and daughter Skylar Herrmann. He is also survived by his brother Richard and his wife Pam; and sisters Rosanna Herrmann; Dianna and her husband Jimmy Heinz; and Mary Allen.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ray's honor to the Wounded Warrior Project.

My sincere sympathy to the entire family. I grew up with Raymond, and we shared many wild and fun times. We kept in touch during his Vietnam days, and my favorite picture he sent was when he stuck his head in the muzzle brake of the big gun that he said they fired for 30 hours. Raymond was a true testament of what hard work and discipline can do. I was proud to call him friend and neighbor for so many years. Gods speed my friend.
