I just learned about Ray's passing and I am so sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with your family especially during the holiday season. I worked with Ray on the other side of the aisle (Department of Justice) for 15 years in Wilmington and would occasionally run into him down in Sussex where I practiced for another 15 years. I remember Ray as a true gentleman, a thoughtful advocate and a pleasure to work with. I remember running into him at the Sussex County Courthouse and was happy to catch up with him -- he always a great smile, a pragmatic approach to a criminal case and a joy for life. He will be truly missed and well-remembered.
Sincerely,
Peggy Marshall Thomas

I just heard about Ray. I am so sorry to hear he is no longer with us. Please accept my sincere condolences. As a paralegal in the Office of the Attorney General I met and worked with Ray for many years. He was a joy to know. He always had a smile on his face and it was contagious. He was a gentleman, polite, engaging, and enthusiastic. For a time Erin Boggs, a paralegal with the Public Defender, and I worked together at the Courthouse. Whenever Ray walked into the courtroom, we would turn to each other and smile. We knew immediately it would be a good day. We looked at Ray as our great big teddy bear and we loved working with him. Even now, as I think of Ray, a smile comes to my face. Thank you for sharing him with us. His presence will be greatly missed but his memory will live on in our hearts.
With Love.
Ann Walther
PS: Kristen, I absolutely adore the pictures you posted of Ray as a young man. They are precious. Thank you.

My sincere condolences to the Otlowski Family. Ray was a tremendous lawyer and it was my sincere pleasure knowing him even though, as a policeman, we were on different sides of the courtroom. He was truly an Officer (Marine) and a Gentleman. Semper Fi, Ray. Rest in Peace.

I worked with Ray in the Public Defender's Office for many years. A great person and role model to all of us who had the pleasure to work with him. He accomplished more in a lifetime than many of us ever will. He will truly be missed.

Our deepest sympathies to the whole Otlowski family. Vincent and I were shocked to hear that Ray had passed. We saw him 2 weeks ago at the Corpomax office and he was optimistic. He was just a joy to be around and we will cherish his memory for the rest of our lives. We are really sorry that we didn't make it to the funeral home yesterday as we were moving but our thoughts and prayers were with you. Stay strong and do not hesitate to reach out if you need us. Mr. O was one of the kindest, most giving men I have ever had the privilege of knowing. In every conversation I had with him over the last 30+ years he always made me feel like I was the only one in the room. From his infamous, how's it going kid to the way he took a genuine interest in me and my family, I will always cherish the time I spent with him. He was truly one of a kind and will be sorely missed. My prayers and condolences go to the entire family.

Just to hear his name- Ray Otlowski- brings a smile to my face. Over the 50+ years we have been friends I can think of no one who surpasses him in gentleness and caring. In the last conversation we had with him, he- with an endearing smile on HIS face- spoke of his family as the beacon of light that guided him through every moment and choice in his life. May that legacy guide those who love him through the grieving that follows such a loss.
