Robert Brown Obituary

Published by Contra Costa Times on Apr. 16, 2010.
Robert "Bob" Brown Resident of Alameda Bob was born in San Diego, CA on May 31, 1930 and passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 3, 2010 in Marysville, CA after a shout bout with recurring cancer. Bob was a graduate of Alameda High School, June 1948, and from an early age was engaged in sports, most notably baseball. Drafted right out of high school by the St. Louis Cardinals, Bob pitched a few seasons in their farm team before an injury forced him to give up the sport. Bob was an avid fisherman, duck hunter, and all-around outdoorsman as well. Bob married Alice White in 1951 and raised four daughters, Margaret, Mary, Elizabeth and Diana. After divorcing in 1972, Bob married Yvonne Zagami and made his living for the next 30 years breeding, raising and training Labrador Retrievers in Marysville, CA at the former "Thunder Cloud Training Center". Bob was preceded in death by his daughter Margaret and former wife Alice. For the last 5 years Bob has lived in Alameda perfecting his golf game and taking up tennis. Well-known for "shooting his age" Bob was enjoying life to the fullest; due in part to his loving companion, Mary Kearney. Bob will be sorely missed by all who knew him and loved him. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, fairness, jokes and pranks, and his twinkling brown eyes. Bob is survived by his 3 daughters Mary Dietz of Chico, Elizabeth Holcomb of Marysville and Diana Surak of Chico; his grandson David Janiak of San Diego and granddaughter Lili De Vaney of Elk Grove. Bob had a total of 10 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Grandpa Bob, I am so grateful to have had you in my life. I have so many fond memories of you. You were such a gentleman, such a "man's man". I find comfort in knowing I picked a partner in life who has many of your qualities. I'm glad my own children are old enough to remember "Grandpa Bob". I will always remember you, always love you, and will always try to live my life in a way you'd be proud of. Love always, Lili

I will always miss my Daddy. He was a wonderful man and honest to a fault. Learning to live without his wise advice will be difficult for me and those who knew him. I am left with a huge hole in my heart that will never heal because it's where my Daddy should be. My comfort is that he was a believer in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and Dad knew he could do nothing to earn his salvation. Everything comes from the Lord, even our faith. I believe the Lord heard his cries for forgiveness and he is in the blessed presence of God Almighty. I love you, Daddy, and always will.
