Margery Brown

Margery Mason Brown, 89, of rural Winchester, and recently a resident of Heritage Health-Barton Stone in Jacksonville, passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2013, in Jacksonville.

She was born Aug. 9, 1923, in Murrayville, the daughter of James and Ethel Whitlock Mason. She married Charles H. Brown in 1957, at the First Christian Church in Winchester, and he preceded her in death in 2004.

She is survived by one son, Jim Brown of Washington, D.C.; two brothers, Glenn (wife, Eleanor) Mason of Murrayville and Norman (wife, Adella) Mason of Tucson, Ariz.; three nephews, Gordon Mason of Murrayville, Tim Mason of Tucson, Ariz., and David Mason of Columbus, Ohio; one niece, Joyce Jacobs of Jacksonville; and several great-nephews and great-nieces.

Mrs. Brown graduated from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. She taught 1st grade for Jacksonville School District 117 for many years, with most of them being at North Elementary School. She had a very strong faith and was an active member of First Christian Church in Winchester. She enjoyed playing bridge and pinochle.

A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Monday at First Christian Church in Winchester, with burial at Winchester City Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 1-3 p.m. Sunday at Williamson Funeral Home in Jacksonville. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to First Christian Church in Winchester.
