On Sunday, January 2, 2022, our Heavenly Father dispatched his angels for our beloved, Rebecca D. Harris, of Church Road, VA to eternal peace and rest.
Rebecca Harris was born on June 8, 1947 to the late Hoover M. Greene, Sr. and Sarah G. Hernandez. She accepted Christ at an early age at Marmora Baptist Church. She was a faithful member and Deacon at Mt. Zion Baptist Church alongside her husband and children.
She was a graduate of Southside High School Class of 1966 and later attended Richard Bland College.
Prior to her declining health, she was employed at Southside Virginia Training Center, a faithful member of The Jolly Sunshine Adult Group and a former member of the Poplar Grove Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. Her hobbies included various crafts, sewing and raising her large array of African Violets. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her father, Hoover Maclin Greene, Sr.; mother, Sarah Greene Hernandez; sister, Shirley A. Goodwyn; grandparents, Laura & Waverly Greene and Samuel & Rebecca Green; father and mother in law, Linwood & Willie Mae Harris, Sr.
Rebecca is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 55 years, Deacon Linwood Harris, Jr.; daughter, Dana H. Sanders of Dinwiddie; son, Deon Harris (Lunita) of Petersburg; grandchildren, Jasmine Sanders (Ryan) of Simpsonville, South Carolina, Deontae Harris of Colonial Heights and ShaQuan Harris of Fayetteville, North Carolina; great grandchildren, Josiah N. Harris, Ryan Harris, Jr., Jordyn Sanders, Zyan Harris, and Josiah K. Harris; sisters, Deacon Barbara Pegram (Edward) and Maxine Allen (Carl); brothers, Hoover Greene, Jr., Waverly Greene (Jaye) and Keith Greene (Edith); aunts, Hallie Louise Hill of Church Road and Laura Dickerson of Ettrick; devoted friends, Barbara Booker, Mary Ann Winfield, Sheila Johnson, and Goldie Evans; a large host of other relatives and friends.
Final Arrangements have been entrusted to the Joseph M. Johnson and Son Funeral Home, 530 S. Sycamore Street, Petersburg. 804-863-4411
