Rebecca Neal Norvell, age 19, died Dec. 1, 2002, of injuries sustained in an automobile wreck. She was a native of Florence, Ala., and a graduate of Coffee High School. At the time of her death, she was a sophomore at Auburn University, where she was an active member of Kappa Delta social sorority. She was a member of First United Methodist Church.Rebecca was a cheerleader at Coffee High School, a member of the National Honor Society and runner-up for Miss Coffee High School 2001. She was also an officer for the Nenon sorority of Florence, Ala. Rebecca made the Dean's List at Auburn University in the fall semester of 2001 and the spring semester of 2002.During the summer of 2002, Rebecca worked as an intern in Washington, D.C., for Congressman Bob Riley and Sen. Richard Shelby. For the 2002 Kappa Delta pledge class, Rebecca served as the pledge class set leader and was the Big Sister/Little Sister coordinator. She was an active volunteer during President Bush's recent visit to Auburn University.Rebecca is survived by her parents, Carter Clarke Norvell and Rebecca Pollard Norvell; and brother, Carter Clarke Norvell Jr. Survivors also include her grandparents, Dr. and Mrs. S. Strudwick Norvell, Mr. LeRoy P. Pollard and the late Edna Thigpen Pollard, and her great-grandmother, Cora Thigpen.She is survived by her aunts and uncles, Dr. Samuel S. Norvell Jr., Mr. and Mrs. William Norvell, Mr. and Mrs. Neal Norvell, Mr. and Mrs. William Hargett, Mr. and Mrs. John Henig. Her cousins include Samuel Norvell III, Tara Norvell, Katrina Norvell, David Norvell, William Norvell Jr., Samuel Norvell, Clay Hargett, Carol Key Hargett, John Henig III, Britton Henig and Jennifer Henig.Visitation will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, 2002, in McDowell Hall at First United Methodist Church. The funeral will follow at First United Methodist Church at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Gary Formby officiating. Burial will be in Greenview Cemetery immediately following the service. Elkins Funeral Home is assisting the family.Pallbearers will be Preston Reeder, David Oakley, Andrew Glennon, Billy Howard, Ian Lowery, Matthew Megar and Chad Harlow. Honorary pallbearer is Aubrey Wilson.The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund.
