MACOMB - Rebecca "Becky" Schluter, 53, of Macomb passed away at 5:32 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, 2015, at her home, surrounded by her family, after a two-year battle with cancer.
She was born on March 19, 1961, in Carthage, the daughter of Edward Lawrence and Hilda Arlene Kirchner Schutte. She married Keith Schluter on Nov. 29, 1980, in Carthage. He survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Erin and Madelyn Schluter, both of St. Louis, Mo.; her mother, Hilda Schutte of Macomb; parents-in-law, Kenneth and Dorothy Schluter of Quincy; four sisters, Theresa (Mike) Brierton, Cecilia (Kenny) Stienkamp, Kathleen (Mike) Lenihan and Linda (Mark) Bastian; brothers, Ralph (Becky) Schutte and Larry (Mary) Schutte; sisters-in law, Carolyn Schutte and Karen (David) Janssen; brother-in-law, Kent (Wendy) Schluter; 11 nieces; and 11 nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Edward Schutte; and one brother, Harold Schutte.
Becky grew up in Augusta and graduated from Southeastern High School. She attended John Wood Community College in Quincy for one year, where she received a secretarial certificate. She worked at March and McMillan for about one year and then at WIU in the registration office for five years. In 1986, she left the workplace to be a happy stay-at-home mom for 18 years. After short stays with Flack, McRaven and Stephens Law Firm and Ryan Johnson Country Insurance, she finished her work career at the WIU Athletics office.
She was a member of the St. Paul's Catholic Church in Macomb and the WIU Leatherneck Club.
She really enjoyed walking her two dogs, decorating and remodeling her house and landscaping her yard.
A funeral Mass will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 22, 2015, at St. Paul's Catholic Church, with Monsignor Richard Pricco officiating. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the church. The Christian wake service will be held at 7 p.m. today, following the visitation at the church.
Memorials may be made to the St. Paul's School Library or the McDonough County Humane Society.
