Regis Noel Obituary

NOEL – Regis John, 96, Altoona, formerly of Ebensburg, died Thursday, Feb. 4, 2010, at James E. Van Zandt VA Medical Center, Altoona, after an extended illness. Born Feb. 25, 1913, in Ebensburg R.D., son of the late Alexander and Eleanor (Ahles) Noel. He married Betty L. Dixon on Feb. 19, 1944, in Cresson. He retired in 1969 as a school bus driver and maintenance man at Central Cambria School District, with more than 15 years of service. Member of Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, Altoona, and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed watching baseball and football. When he was younger, he square danced a lot. He served in the U.S. Army as a private first class in World War II with Company E 363rd Infantry, 91st Division. He received the Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal and European-African- Middle Eastern Campaign Ribbon, with two Battle Stars. In addition to his wife, he is survived by son, James R. Noel, Altoona; daughters, Ellen Flickinger, Altoona; Shirley Ann (husband, Howard) Williams, Claysburg; Sandra Lee Noel, Altoona; and Janet L. Noel, Haymarket, Va.; seven grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by brothers, Elmer, Donald, Hilbert, Norman and Chester Noel. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 8, at Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, Altoona. Committal rites will be held at Calvary Cemetery. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Jones Funeral Home, Altoona, where vigil for the deceased will be celebrated during the visitation.
