Renata Runge Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province from Jun. 5 to Jun. 6, 2009.

RUNGE Renata (von Dellingshausen) July 30, 1927 - May 25, 2009Quietly passed away in extended care following several disabling strokes. Renata was a long-time resident of Tsawwassen (Delta). Born into the Baltic German community in Reval (Tallinn), Estonia, she and her family survived the turmoil of the war years and settled in Frankfurt, West Germany. After several years working at United Press International, Renata followed her sister to Canada in 1953. In addition to working at UPI in Vancouver, she enjoyed a vivacious social life, loved to ski and to take road trips to the Okanagan. Marriage and work led to a lengthy sojourn in Seattle, from which the Runge family returned in 1977 to settle on Cliff Drive in Tsawwassen. Predeceased by her husband John, son Charles and sister Margaret von Schulmann, she is lovingly remembered by her son Andreas (Katie, and granddaughters Annah and Claudia) of Sydney, Australia; daughter-in-law Belle Straker and grandsons Lance and Kayne of Kelowna; brothers Nils (Madeline) and Lorenz von Fersen, Vancouver; Patrick (Elizabeth) Frankfurt, and Nikolai (Barbara) von Dellingshausen in Salzburg. Missed by her nieces, nephews and their families, and her many Baltic German friends and relations. A celebration of her life will take place at Cammidge House in Boundary Bay Regional Park, Delta, at 5:30 PM on Friday, July 17, 2009. RSVP to [email protected] or 604.738.0649 to get directions. In lieu of flowers a donation to Delta Humane Society ( www.deltahumanesociety.org ) would be in keeping with Renata's love of animals.
