We apologize for being so late in expressing our deepest condolences to you and your family. We want you to know that we will be sending Care Packages to deployed troops this holiday season and several of these will be dedicated to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo, service branch, rank and hometown of Reno S. Lacerna US Army Sergeant.

Eulogy to my husband SGT. RENO LACERNA, USA Army

Loving families...dear friends...guests...
Good afternoon...

This has been the longest journey home for RENO. This has been the most enduring times for me, his children, his family and friends. However, during these agonizing moments, gladness emanates for RENO has finally come home to me, to us, to his family and to his Creator.

There are no comforting words. There will be no easy way to get out of this...

RENO would always say everytime he gets assigned to the field that there is always a palpable fear...of getting hurt...of not coming back. His courage will see us through the mourning phase. Time can only tell when it will end.

I would like to personally thank:

and the rest of the support group...which made the tedious process of bringing RENO home easier.

My heartfelt thanks to RENO's family: his parents, brother, sisters, in-laws, nieces and nephews.

The same goes to my family: my brother, sisters, in-laws, my nieces and nephews.

I appreciate the presence of our friends, their prayers and their words of kindness, warmth and encouragements.

Despite the continued distance between me and RENO, we have made it a point to cherish each other and enjoyed every moment we are together everytime he is able to get a vacation. We have never ceased talking and communicating. We enjoy each other a lot, and the longing for each other made every encounter a blissful one. I vivdly remember the single conversation which made an impact when I got the news from the US Army. He said that if had a choice, he would want to be the first one to go because he will never be able to make it without me.

RENO is the best provider I have ever known. He planned and organized the future for me and his children. He even left me with heaps of happy memories enough to aid me in this trying times.

He has assured us of a safe and sound future. And as such, myself and our kids will continue to live the legacy of SGT. RENO LACERNA by abiding with the plans he has unselfishly prepared for us.

PAPA, you will forever remain in our hearts...

Eulogy to my dear brother ARMY SGT. RENO LACERNA


Maricon, Iram, Rencio, my brother, sisters, Mama and Papa, please do not cry when I’m reading this. You will all feel better. Sorry Reno, your big sister is barking orders as usual.

When I learned Reno passed away, I couldn’t help but turn back the hands of time from when he was an innocent playful child, a naughty crazy teenager, a hardworking Light Rail Transit training supervisor, a responsible family man, a new American immigrant and an enthusiastic U.S. Army Sergeant. I thought of his trials, hardships, his goals, health and spirituality. And I said to myself, he’s gone and all we have left are photographs and memories of my dear brother.

I went to the USA in 1995. I did not return until 12 years later - to attend Reno’s funeral. As I browsed my passport, I read an excerpt from the Declaration of Independence, “ We hold these truths to be self evident that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” Yes, this is what Reno was trying to achieve life, liberty and pursuit of happiness since 1996 when he arrived in United States of America.

And as I continued on browsing my passport, I read the assassinated US President John F. Kennedy’s famous words of wisdom, “ Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, in order to assure the survival and the success of liberty.” This gave me great consolation and I said to myself that my brother, Sgt Reno Lacerna, is truly an American hero and soldier.

To my parents, Augusto and Dory, I know that you are in great pain and agony. Cheer up Mama and Papa, you brought into this world a brave son. I know the gene of bravery and courage came from both of you. Thank you Papa for visiting Reno during his training at Fort Knox, KY; Aberdeen, MD; Fort McClellan Alabama; Schofield, Hawaii and Fort Stewart, GA. He definitely appreciated the bonding.

To my sister-in-law, Maricon; nephews, Iram and Rencio; my brother, Iruel and sisters, Corinne, Isa and Gigi, this too shall pass. God will guide us through our loss and grief, holding us closer and granting us relief. We still have each other and we will do the best we can. I’m an anesthesiologist in Virginia. I have seen life, death and saved lives of every nationality Spanish, Japanese, Vietnamese, Koreans, Afghans, Iraqis. I fought for everyone’s life up to the end but I learned to give up because I am not God. God is the best physician I have ever worked with. I cannot mend Reno’s broken heart but rest assured, I will do my best to attend to our family’s grief. The doctor is in.

To the US Army and the United States of America, thank you for giving Reno the opportunity. We all thank you for your bravery in pursuit of liberty. But most of all, thank you for giving Sgt Reno Lacerna physical and emotional strength, as well as strength in character. To the Medic who was saving Reno’s life, thank you for letting him go and giving him up to be with our Lord Jesus Christ.

To our friends and relatives, thank you for coming and warming our hearts. It is greatly appreciated.

To Reno, we will miss you. It was just too sad on your way to your pursuit of happiness, your life was cut short. You were very enthusiastic and very happy when you joined the US Army. You were very proud of your accomplishments. You never complained about a soldier’s life. We just wished we were not too scared to listen to your bits and pieces of your experiences in Iraq. But I know you understood that we all feared for your life. I know when you woke up on the day you died, Dec. 31 2007, you were happy and contented. It was sudden but I know you didn’t suffer. You also accepted God your Savior and fully entrusted your life to Our Lord. You were prepared. Farewell my dear brother, our soldier boy and our hero. We all love you. We will take care of Maricon, Iram and Rencio as you requested the last time we spoke on Dec 5, 2007. Congratulations and enjoy your new life with our Lord. Enjoy the bread and wine with Him!

To the Family and Friends of this Soldier:
I will stand in grief with this soldier's family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten. You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.

Dear family of Sgt. Reno S. Lacerna, I am so sorry for the loss of your hero. He was a hero in many ways to many people. He was helping to maintain our freedoms and helping to bring freedoms to those that have never known freedom before. I send many packages to contacts listed at AnySoldier.com. Your Reno, being a volunteer contact for Any Soldier.com, was an angel to many in the field. He cared enough for his unit to help pass out mail to those who maybe did not receive any or as much mail as others. Helping them to know that they were supported, cared for and prayed for by us at home in the USA. What a true hero. Freedom isn’t free.

I read that Sgt. Lacerna was stationed out of Hawaii. I lived on the big island of Hawaii over 10 years. I am happy that Reno got to see the beauty of the Hawaiian islands.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.
